2 years of FT pre-MBA exp + non-target MBA won’t be a “top of the pile” profile for off-cycle recruitment for a post-MBA level role @ MBB/Tier 2. You need to network and/or aim for a level lower.
Agreed. Either FT experience needs to be longer or the MBA needs to be from a better school. Since you can’t change either of those now, aim lower.
Network with hiring managers, partners etc. you’re just a pdf in a pile of thousands. You need to differentiate yourself from the masses.
Is your resume written in our style?
Simply applying online and not going the extra mile will not get you there.
Would you care to review my resume?
Perhaps resume issues if you are struggling to get past the first stage. It sounds like good experience. Think you should really focus on your project impact as consulting is project based too hence the obvious link with your past experience
Sure DM me. It could also be non target MBA or maybe you’re pricing yourself out for roles (idk).
Non-target mba might be considered as a drawback on cv for tier-1 consulting .
@OP, I'd suggest a test and learn approach.
You already tried applying to top firms. Use your same playbook and apply to a much broader mix of lower tier consultancies (Tier 2/3, boutiques etc.) at levels that are aligned to your experience level (entry level or junior).
See how the response rate changes. My hypothesis is it'd go up. From there, you'll have a much better opportunity to learn what it is these firms like about your experience specifically.
Then you can use that feedback loop to refine your approach (e.g., perhaps your background appeals to a specialist firm more so than a generalist one. Perhaps your experience slots you in as a promising junior consultant, but not a more experienced one) and so on...
Overall I’ve saved the company 7 figures, over the course of 5+ projects I’ve spearheaded. Which has led to my rapid growth from entry level.
I had a former BCG recruiter help me make my resume and cover letter to ensure it’s up to par for candidates they used to interview
I would still check with some other folks because I had two drastically different resumes get two MBB 1st rounds <6 months apart
