Truly an aspect that I'm lost in. My organization doesn't really seem to do much in terms of internal promotions and it definitely frustrates the people who are under me. But there's nothing I can do about it if the poeple above me don't plan to do anything.
I believe in having open dialogues about career goals and offering opportunities for skill development through workshops or courses. I also find that encouraging peer-to-peer mentorship can create a supportive environment for growth. I'm curious to hear what others have found effective!
All you can really do is provide opportunity and/or maintain a framework for goals and professional development. You can champion and advocate for career advancement, but the heavy lift is up to them and dependent in your companies culture. I ran an engineering team for 5 years and due to our budget /HR headcount structure, there were no promotions available unless someone left or we could do a title adjustment with minimal pay increase. It was hard to build loyalty when the company did not support individual career advancement.
