1) Ridiculous that only sent to Managers+
2) No change in cohort in pay scale for Director so the jump in % when hit Director will be tiny
3) Poorly timed for anyone up for D this or next year as they adjust to this new title
4) Sabbatical at SM is nice
Yea, I’m not going to assume the sky is falling quite yet I imagine that they will move a significant number of Ms over to the SM category right out of the gate. The number of sub levels within the M cohort is crazy anyway...
Standardization across the global network will be a good thing though. Some member firms have roles such as Associate Director, Director, Senior Director, Associate Partner, etc, some of which don’t even mean the same thing from firm to firm even when the same terms are used. This at least will help reduce that confusion - I’ve had secondment candidates not even know what level to ask for in the destination firm.
Wtf
Seriously ? Is this public knowledge ?
Pretty big change
Not implemented until 2019. But there are definitely risks to timing people have to be careful of. Eg if you expected to be a director in 2020 you'd want to hit sr manager 2018 so not sure how that will work.
Email from Tim Ryan just came out. Yes but if you in running for Director this year and don’t get it, then you looking at 2021.
You'd have to ask on a webcast or to HR, but since there are only two manager cohorts my guess is that M3 cohort will automatically become SMs?
I think this will definitely impact number of years to partnership. Used to be 3 years to director now it is 2 years to SM and 2 year to Director which is 4 years total.
@PW3 - it sounds like this may add more confusion. Before this intro, the equivalent ranks were either Director or Senior Manager (PWC: Director, KPMG: Director, EY: Senior Manager, Deloitte: Senior Manager). Now it seems PWC would be the only big 4 firm that has both the Senior Manager and director level (in the management consulting arm). But it also sounds like the new Senior Manager level is only a replacement for Manager year 3 and 4, rather than a true promotion. Thoughts?
Deloitte also has 5 ranks whereas the others only have 4 ranks.
@D4 as I often sell work using international resources, the lack of standardization on staff levels is confusing for everyone involved. It can be hard to price, teams don’t fully understand what the roles of others equate to in their country, and clients think it’s all overcomplicated. It will likely cause some short term confusion but at least the market-facing side of this should be easier for truly multinational teams.
LOL
Agreed that this causes more confusion and adds to the bureaucracy. All the other firms have 4 levels before partner and now we have 5.
True I have also seen proposals with associate/senior associate and consultant/senior consultant which gets confusing. Did the email say if titles will change to consultant?
Following
@P6 It specifically states associate, manager, senior manager and director. The titles are xLoS so Advisory doesn’t get different titles (Consultant) that wouldn’t apply in Assurance or Tax
Does this apply to Strategy& too?
