14 is a good day
Frankly speaking - 40-50 max. I developed a very clear and narrow specialization which allows me to work less but being in demand at the same time for the topics I am expert in
This is the way. When I was a generalist, I worked 65 on average. As someone with a functional specialization - I work 50 max.
I am guessing a lot of the higher hours here are juniors without a niche.
8am-10pm is my average. Fridays are a half day by 5!
50-60 a week is typical
This is case dependent. I would say 50-60 is a good week. Unfortunately my current case is 60-70 weekly
8 to midnight
End at 6 Friday
The hours are far better than IB hours. I have friends in IB and they do till 3-4am daily, Friday nights, Sunday full days and sometimes stretches of 2+ months with zero days off.
That being said the mck lifestyle isn’t worth it to me (as a BA). I am going to leave in the next 1-1.5 years for a better lifestyle job that supports my health. Also the mck comp is severely underpaid for the number of hours worked compared to “competing” careers like top software/PM companies, biglaw, IB, etc
For some people it’s worth it.
MBBA- 70-80hrs
Working MBB hours for WITCH pay.
Try averaging 3,000 billable hours a year, not including travel time.
I don’t imagine there are many people who could do that for one year without falling apart - physically and/or mentally. I did it for five years. As an international technical and business consultant.
I had to record my billable hours, but my employer charged a “daily” rate for me of $1,500. I never kept track of the days. I just know I was gone from my home for 30 weeks (including weekends) my last year there and only getting hit by a car stopped the madness. I had a just under 6-figure salary my last year on the job.
The records I kept indicate I generated over a $1 million in revenue that year for my ‘business unit’ as the group I worked in was referred to under the cost accounting m that was used.
My point being that compensation is only loosely associated with actual value.
This is mad, thanks for sharing, I'm in a situation where they are pushing me to work over time and give up on holidays I have already booked for a launch that due to circumstances out of my control was delayed. I'm so stressed that I barely look around when I walk, this is a good reminder.
55-60 in a week, but most here have it worse.
How do you manage to exercise/eat/sleep and do any other thing during the week?
literally 0 exercise
~30 hours.
McKinsey BA - 8-midnight plus a few hours on the weekends.
Some weeks where it was ~2am every day. Also have had some weeks where I had to work extensively the entire weekend to meet a deadline.
Yeah what region? Southern Europe? Asia?
50!
I did 14 on average during my time there - miss the urgency though…
Maybe 3

Good for you AC1!
40-45 typically. 50 max
Typically 10-11. Start around 8ish finish at 6. Overall not bad. Still get multiple hours in evenings to do whatever
Honestly last year I was on the chilliest project, had probably 1 week a month where I WORKED - as in meetings + actual work time WITHOUT distraction of 35-40 hours. Again in talking no phone and working. Actually thinking, researching and completing tasks. The other 3 weeks of the month was MAYBE 15 hours.
It was glorious and now I’m working 70 hour ACTUAL working weeks and I hate my life and don’t know how people do this for something they’re not passionate about & is soo worthless in the grand scheme.
I like working, just not in this field. I want to start a biz or buy a biz in the next 2 years - currently have $250k saved from this year alone (wife is a boss) and should get to $500k and have some flexibility next year to make moves.
You must learn a lot from working so much. I can only wonder what you’re learning.
lol I commented at this not realizing it asked about MBB
