NYC is making a law saying employers can't ask. Focus on what you're worth, not what you make now.
@MV2, that's illegal
Duh... recruiters know it, too.
I'm talking about a realistic salary here- nothing crazy/out of the realm of possibility. Regardless, is there a way to check?
I think it's normal to inflate your salary by 5k or so.
No I don't think they can legally check. Why would it be worth their time anyways? Whatever you're applying for will have a salary cap and that's kind of the end of it.
I believe they can check if it's within the same holding company, watch out for that
I don't talk salary. The only number that matters is the one it's going to take to move me.
Well, this may play the trick back on you when your inflated salary would be way too high
Typically, I just go on a salary website and then compare with Glassdoor salaries. You want to be competitive but realistic and it's nice to back up with data.
Be careful. After I accepted an offer, but before I was allowed to start, I was asked to submit a recent pay-stub. Luckily, I only rounded to the nearest 5k. 💯they would have rescinded.
I always lie. Has never been checked. Have lied up to $10K.
I've seen that before Media. I think NYC is trying to outlaw it
