Base comp is 100% standardized (lateral or homegrown) and isn’t the right metric to focus on. Total comp is a much more informative metric given our rich bonuses, free healthcare, 10% retirement contribution (on base + bonus) etc. Where you fall within the bonus range is almost solely a function of individual performance.
For a P1, figure 325-400k base + bonus + retirement. However you value free healthcare for the fam is additional. Signing bonus, where you may have some negotiation flexibility, is also additional.
Thanks all!
Note that when you join BCG will probably have you do a case or two at the Consultant level to learn the culture, etc. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing (although it can be) but you likely won’t have a realistic opportunity to earn your full bonus because of this (they will day you didn’t fully operate as a principal). Safe assumption that you will make the “target” bonus in your first year

Yes, although probably at a lower rate than home grown Principals (Ps) or earlier lateral hires. Many (but not all Ps) have the makings of a strong constellation (2-4 commercially successful partners who go to market as a team and will always staff/feed said P), platform (expertises and clients), and pyramid (rockstar A/C/PLs) they’ve cultivated earlier in their tenure. Those factors are very important when considering promotion to Partner and election to MD which happen on roughly 2 year cycles from becoming a P.
