‘Codependent No More’ is a good book to check out.
Codependency and active Alcoholics/ Addicts go hand in hand. Alanon is a great start.

Yeah you have to get to the root of it. For me it was my childhood..

Oh shit, this is me, I feel like a 💡 just went on. Thanks for sharing.
Specifically how it’s rooted in shame, that was instilled in me very foundationally by my catholic upbringing. They love shame, part of their marketing plan to get people to do what they’re told with the promise of eternal hell as a motivator. Horrible horrible things to teach children if you ask me. I’ve been in therapy for years trying to unseat that shame. The thing that helped the most is my 4th step, I see it all much more clearly now.

This really resonates with me. As a nice guy, I found this book to be shockingly familiar and offered a real “ah ha” view into my own personality that has found me in a few codependent situations:

‘Facing Codependence’ by Melody Beattie was a helpful book for me
Check out Al-Anon; by trying to manage an addicts behavior or consequences, you are hurting the addict by not giving them the opportunity to grow or learn. Good luck- it is hard to detach with love, but you can do it. But you don’t have to do it alone
Also, you could check out Celebrate Recovery. It’s a Christian 12 Step Recovery group. They have resources and groups for Codependency and Addiction.
