What level? Also I’d assume a PIP and consul out incoming. Just start applying now and don’t ever believe anyone who says you can survive a PIP in these economic times.

Make the plan to buy time but don’t stop applying. You’re on the way out. Leaders in consulting are lazy and would rather fire and hire someone new vs drive improvements. Assume that it’s a pip and move forward
Do what you can to prolong your time in your current company and simultaneously look out and apply actively for new job postings. There is no coming back from PIP.

That sounds like they’re setting you up to get you to document low performance. By creating your own improvement plan proactively, you’re essentially admitting that you need to improve.
I'm surprised by the levels of negativity in the responses.
As long as the targets/objectives in the plan are SMART, there's no reason why the situation you find yourself can't be turned around.
It's far more cost effective to support the staff we already have than it is to go through the time and effort of managing someone through a process like this, then having to go through the (frankly painful and very expensive) hiring process for a replacement.
And it's far easier for you to draw a line under whatever brought you to this point, refocus, and move forward, than it will be for you to have to find a new opportunity elsewhere.
