Is HC for non technical roles any different?
Hi all. I am trying to determine if I am being compensated fairly. I am a tax manager (about to start my second year as manager) and have been with EY since staff 1. I was promoted to manager in June 2020 (during covid) and received a 7.5% raise. The class above me has mentioned they received much higher raises during their promotion years. My base salary is now approx. 97K. Any insights would be extremely helpful. Thanks!

Wow you’re actually in a position where you can make your decision based on culture and fit. A few other factors I would consider: average attractiveness of people in each office, do you like the letter M or B more, are you willing to answer the question of what BCG stands for, which one will best support your exit to POTUS, preferred color/font scheme for decks. This is why I work at EY...
We fly first class on flights above 1.5 hours
McK 3 hours
C1, if I’m not mistaken, only Accenture has the senior analyst title
When I made my choice, I liked the more social nature of bcgers. It has to be about the people you see every day. Whichever clicked for you, go for that. Brand means nothing if you hate every minute
Jeez these comments are making me question my decision
BCG
Guyssss. Why run rampant with M on here...
OP- I had both as well, McK had a better rep and I really identified with everyone during interviews. I’d suggest using your own experiences with both firms to figure out which you fit better with, either way both are a great choice 🙂
Also not that these should explicitly inform your decision, but I believe BCG has better travel policies, healthcare, and transition policies so keep that in mind
They're both trying to sell you right now, so take advantage of it. Talk to as many people as you can and get different perspectives. Talk to alumni, people at different levels, etc. Be honest with yourself about what matters most to you personally and seek answers to those questions. What do people value, why do people succeed, why do they fail, who fits in, who doesn't, what are the exit paths, what are the paths to partner...all good things to consider.
BCG fo sho.
Congrats on the good news. Bcg unless you know your plan is to transition out in a few years
Fwiw, I think McK is the more prestigious firm; however, agree with others that BCG has funnier ppl with more witty comments on FB.
Why so many of us on fishbowl right now instead of sleeping 🤨
Agree go with culture. I got both offers - I found mck folks consistently like able during the process and I found BCG “boring”. But that was me.
BCG - better policies on travel and food
McK - way easier to do global rotation. Also partnership model is better
Pick based on culture/fit. I felt I had a better connection with people at M than I did at the other big firms. You can’t make a bad choice either way- pick where you fit and you’ll be happy.
I, personally, like McKinsey and probably wouldn’t be as happy at BCG, but I know plenty of people who feel differently. I’ve been here a few years, and still enjoy my colleagues (for the most part) and the work I do.
I interviewed with both but did not make it.
The people at BCG were consistently nicer and pleasant to interact with.
I can't comment on BCG. But since joining M I've had job offers streaming in over Linkedin. Good if you're planning for next steps.
Can’t speak to McK but I love BCG, have been here 8 years out of undergrad and still excited about the people and the work here
Showboat...relax
So no love for McKinsey? Not even by their own employees???
@Strategy&2: how do you know about McK and bcg? Do you work there? Just irks me how much people know these days
