I will say take the Boeing offer. Man it’s Boeing, I assume you will work with the best talent team. It might be a bit slow grow track but you will be much solid in technical skill sets if in industry. Second, I assume you will be located at Seattle, and tons of CS opportunities out there in that region, MS, Amazon, Facebook, you name it. If you really into CS then definitely a must go.
OP if you are working as a engineer in delivery center now (assuming that’s similar to Deloitte’s DC), I’d advise you to go to Boeing. Working as an engineer at one of the most admired industrial product company will only boost ur resume after you already a year of consulting under ur belt. From there you can either go to B school or come back in couple of years.
Hate to crash the party here but if you go to Boeing, your career will take a nose dive.
Too soon?
How did you manage to get only 50k? Is that a normal salary at EY? I think Deloitte BAs get 80+ so 50 seems very off to me
The incoming fall 2019 BAs are getting upwards of 80k. Not over it. Maybe in 2020 BAs will start at 80+
OP whose to say your career ends at Boeing. If you take the jump you get 20K. You can always come back to big 4 if you have built strong enough connections.
I got to over 100k in 2 yrs, but i started at 75k. In PI advisory. I would say go to Boeing. Get that experience at a major company on your resume and utilize that to jump somewhere after another 2 yrs to a tech firm to make way way more
I usually wish for people to stay, but it’s true that you can carve out a niche and gain experience at Boeing that will be beneficial if you boomerang back. That being said, how many airline industry projects/companies are out there? Not sure, but I’d assume not many.
Well I’d say it depends on what you want to do. These are very different fields. Money wise, yes. Opportunities, well Boeing will lead you to more STEM opportunities; Big4 well it’s big4...
Depends on your area, but I can tell you that it’s unlikely to double your salary the first 2 years in big4. I’ll let people from EY chime in, but from my friends at EY, no one doubled their salaries or got to 100k in 2 years out of school.
What city are you in? 50k for a campus recruit seems low, but given that base, it’s likely to take some time to work yourself out of that hole. 100k in 4-5 years is probably more reasonable, and that timeline is still likely to beat what you’ll see at Boeing. Good thumbrule for consulting compensation is to expect your comp to double every 4-5 years
I’ve interned at Boeing doing ops. Your work life balance will be amazing but also have very limited growth opportunities
I made 50k out of school 2 years ago when I joined EY. I’m at 100k now at another firm
Good question. I had a similar decision, and decided to go Big 4 because of the experience I would get. I was okay with deferring a higher salary for Big 4 experience because I know that my exit opportunities will be great and that I won’t have trouble getting a higher salary when leaving. But you should truly evaluate what it is that you want to do in your career and go that route.
Yes, it’s a no brainer. PV of money makes $70K offer better. Boeing is a great company.
I personally like consulting work and also like money lol. I was told that working for big 4 for 2 years makes you worth 100K. Don’t know if that’s true or not
Not when you start off at such a low base. Raises will be based off your starting salary. If you started around 80-85, yes you could probably get to 100k in 2 years (true in my case)
Stick with it. You should be able to get $100k somewhere in two years. Likelihood is that growth at Boeing will be significantly slower.
Are you in PI at EY? Your base seems lower than normal but it depends on your service line and region.
Work within the delivery centers can be very different than work done on client site. I’d suggest getting exp and exposure to leadership
Try to use the offer to renegotiate pay at EY they might not match it but should go up some if they value you
You will get promoted pretty fast though if you work hard. Promotions from the lowest level are pretty easy in the sense that if you work hard, you will get it. You don’t need to be on the right project or at the right account. Just good reviews, and knock out a cert or two. And also, you could leave to another consulting firm and get way more money still. I now a guy at Accenture was making 65K and got hired from Booz for 110K after a year.
