Recently I had to quit due to a narcissistic PI and research coordinator, who deliberately made working conditions difficult for me forcing me to quit. They would completely ignore me/exclude me in meetings, give me more work + micromanage me, and the PI one time in front of HR told me twice to my face that “She’s not good enough” or “She’s not as good as the other RAs”. I’ve done my work like every1 else but they chose to target me. I’m struggling to find jobs rn, any advice?

Hello—I am sorry you had such a negative experience in your previous role. My advice for you would be to not take their actions personally. Based on your description, the environment your superiors cultivated is not the right one for you. I also had a similar experience. Take this as a lesson on what you won’t allow in your next opportunity. I would not bash your old job to hiring managers as it may leave a negative impression on you. Instead, you should focus on your interests in furthering you

Anyone, either within your old lab, or at your old organization but a different lab, that you were friends with? I would reach out to them and see if they know about other labs hiring. I am not saying that if they help you find a new position, you have to stay there forever, but you'll be looking for a new role from a good place.

Been there. For anyone who needs this - document everything and keep your cool. Follow the chain of command, communicate all issues in writing, and let them retaliate first. When it gets to a point to where your position is jeopardized, apply to other jobs while still employed. Let them fire you. That way, if they're at fault, you not only have documentation, but something else lined up. Don't let that stop you from accepting other offers before you're fired, though - do what's best for you!

I’m so happy you found i’m

What you should do when dealing with a very toxic worker that keep on sending passive aggressive messages to you as well as in group chat and email.
Things like when you answer his question he respond: I know that
Or when he keeps on saying my change requests were just minor in group meeting but actually not.
And keep on saying how hard he works when he clearly wasn’t and already underperformed compared to an intern level.

How to not let this toxic co-worker not poison me any further?

PARTNERS: two questions —1. If you see an associate has really low hours for the month, do you imagine them chillen on a beach somewhere or do you consider they probably spent most of their days sitting in front of the computer being “available”? 2. If you send an associate a random e-mail on a weekend like “Can you pull X and send to Y”, would you get annoyed if they responded saying they weren’t by a comp or would you consider it reasonable that they wouldn’t be by a comp on a weekend?

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

Additional Posts in Clinical Research

Hi everyone. I’m trying to transition from working at a non-profit to a more profitable position within research. My current title at my org is as a CR-assistant. Any suggestions of good transitional positions within clinical research? (That could be done remotely). Thank you!!

Hi I have 5+ yrs of bedside clinical research nurse experience and have been trying to pivot to the CRO world. I have applied to over 40+ positions and keep getting rejected. I have reformatted my resume to ATS but that doesn’t seem to be working either. Why is it so hard to get into the CRO industry and why is my hospital experience not translating? Thanks

Hi all! I recently finished my Masters in Biology. I worked on a few studies with human subjects as well as animal work. I am hoping to get a job in clinical research as either a CRC or CRA. What advice do you all have for entering the field in my position?
Thanks!!

I’ve worked in clinical research in the academic/non profit world for the past five years. I want to transition to a role in pharma or a CRO, but haven’t been successful yet because I don’t have industry experience. Does anyone know of any CROs/pharma companies that are willing to hire someone with research expertise from an academic medical center rather than already in industry? Thanks!

I’m looking to transition from an academic medical center to pharma or a biotech. I have about 8 years of clinical research experience overall — 7 years combined as a CRC (CRC I, CRC II, and senior CRC) and 1 year as a PM. I’m also recently ACRP-CP certified.

I’ve worked with many different industry-sponsors and CROs throughout the years, but many jobs I am applying to require experience at a biotech/CRO/pharma company. Would really appreciate any advice or referrals. Thanks in advance!

Hi. I have applied for a job in an academic setting for a leadership role in cancer research. Duties would have me responsible for a small team of research nurses as well as other managerial duties for the department. I have been a research nurse for 3 years now, but I have no experience applying for a salaried position or a role in leadership. What sort of salary would be appropriate to ask for? I know that I should aim high and let them counter, but how high exactly? Thanks I’m advance
