Recently transitioned to being fully remote moving forward and I am getting a puppy! Couldn’t be happier! Any tips for a new furry friend while WFH?!

Spend some time away from the puppy so they don’t develop a dependence on you and turn anxious when you have to return to work

like

Graduated departures for sure, and keep them up over the next few months! Increments of 5 min

Be ready for a lot of accidents. Starting training as soon as you get the puppy (sit, stay, lay down, etc).

Make sure you use high reward treats for potty training. This means use a highly delicious treat they love more than other treats after they go to the washroom outside. This gives them higher incentive to go pee outside. Don’t use the treat for any other training/tricks either. We used freeze dried liver for our pup. And take them out to the bathroom often, before they have time to even have an accident inside.

like

We tried no treats and made zero progress. Like JA1, we used dried liver treats which are like gold to our pup. They were used sparingly and wisely, coupled with immense praise, but they work.

For the first week on walks we took three kinds of treats in a pouch, a toy reserved for walks only, and a lot of praise. Slow and steady improvement and wean off treats over time.

Take LOTS of pictures, the extreme cute puppy stage goes by fast. Ours is 12 weeks old and already looking more like a small dog than a puppy.

Had a German Shepherd puppy - I think probably one of the neediest puppies, so you can tailor your needs down from the list.
-Get a crate and a indoor playpen. This way you can have time away from your pup when you know they are absolutely safe.
-Get lots of feeding toys if you are going to be working and need to entertain the puppy. Kong and Omega both make one.
-The bully sticks idea above is great. Also great for teething pups - frozen carrots!
-Get a no spill water bowl for the first bit if you have a big dog.
- get a clicker and a treat pouch for your walks
- get a waist leash if you have a big dog. This helps if you’re trying to juggle treats, clickers, etc on walks. Get a long line if you are trying to teach recall.
-I also tethered a leash they dragged around at home till they were older, so my dog didn’t have time to develop bad habits and was always within reach.
Good luck and have so much fun. My sweet baby passed away 2 years ago, and I have missed her more than anything. Took every ounce of my being to not get a pup during WFH.

If you don’t think you will have the time to train the puppy immediately, there are puppy training programs you can send the pup to. They are normally about 4 weeks long and cover all the basics so no little accidents. My colleague did this, and they said it worked great

like

I really enjoyed pupbox for the first few months. It’s a little pricey, but puppies need a lot of entertainment in the early days.

Other things that I would recommend:
- dogfoodadvisor for choosing food (this can be surprisingly stressful - I went with Fromm when my dog was a puppy and then switched to a combo of raw food plus nature’s logic kibble as an adult)
- bell training to go out
- Kong brand toys (they’re the safest ones! Wubbas are the best)
- consider getting insurance while your dog is a puppy. It often covers neuter/spay and prices are lower when you start them young.
- dental treats when they’re old enough!
- USA sourced bully sticks. They’re gross but dogs love them. Great for entertaining energetic puppos
- apps for training. You can get paired with a personal trainer for your dog basically. I didn’t do this and wish I had
- make sure to get a leptospirosis vaccine for your dog. It’s often optional and lepto is terrible

Get a Great Dane! Great for apartments too and they just chill with you! Plus they make great guests for VC calls lol

Hello Everyone,

My joining is on 11th July. I believe I have to collect the laptop from Camac street on joining date. But after laptop collection, should I WFH as the Technopolis office is not ready? Also, how much time does it take on first day for all the formalities? After laptop collection and formalities, I am planning to return to my hometown which is 250 km away.

My wife is in sales at Mercedes and she has been averaging $200k a year and growing YoY. She loves her job, however she works long days and barely gets time off. We plan on having kids within the next year or two, and it’s highly u likely that she’ll be able to keep her current gig. We want to find a career that allows her to work remote or that at least gives her a better work life balance so that she can see her kids grow up. Should she get certifications to give her a shot at adtech?Too late?

Question: I have a client who started a restaurant. He leased the land and bought shipping containers where he spent money contracting out to turn them into bars. I’m having a tough time determining how to depreciate this! First thought was leasehold but he’s not making improvements to a structure...he owns the structure! But nonresidential real estate at 27.5 years doesn’t make sense either as it’s not a brick and mortar building. Curious on others thoughts! TIA

Do you all see a compelling future in your tax career? I’ll go first, I don’t see a compelling future working for a large PA firm in the long run because you have to work more as you move up. However, I do see a compelling future by using my knowledge and skills to open my own firm/business and work less hours as long as I make enough money which is $75k, or if I do work long hours, it’s because I want to.
