Pay is like 75K, which is 40% less than what I make and pretty low for a role 3-5 years out of school. What gives? Why would Ivy, UChicago, etc. grads be attracted?
Glassdoor salary is an estimate. I would ask the recruiter whether it is even in your target comp range.
I have a friend who works there (and comes from a top 5 US school). She has amazing work/ life balance, and gets incredible ownership of her work and career. From what I have heard from her, the people and culture are amazing, and so is the opportunity for growth (e.g. she is 1 year in and because of growth of company, she now gets to lead an entire workstream)
Your assumption is that people who go to ivy league and top tier schools generally want the highest paying jobs (eg finance, tech) offered in their location of choice.
Maybe these people felt they would be able to add much value in their roles, were attracted by growth opps, thought Wayfair was a nice intro to the ecommerce industry, figured the equity package would make up for the lower salary, etc.
Anecdote: I know lawyers who went to top law schools, but chose nonprofit or federal work instead of going the big law route (huge difference in salary).
There are various reasons as to why someone with an "impressive pedigree" would choose a specific job and it's narrow-minded to have preconceptions about what such people *should* go into based on their background.
Fair point
Based on what I know, people may take a slight pay cut (10-15 percent). Do talk to the recruiter and get a range. Folks seem to love it there.
Awesome working environment with like-minded people who want to be part of something special and won’t compromise.
It’s not always about the money. And I don’t know what stock and options opportunities exist, so there’s that too, at some point.
Lotta ex-consultants, I hear.
Friend left wayfair, seems like a horrible culture and known for underpaying
They take a lot of bcg people and they usually offer us 30% above our base salaries which is triple what glass door says so I wouldn’t give Glassdoor much cred
