Saw a LinkedIn post which was liked by one of my higher-ups which really rubbed me the wrong way. Someone posted about how they work on vacation because they can't imagine just "relaxing by the pool" all week. I mean if that's all that person does on vacation - talk about a lack of life and then they were like "I don't follow vacation norms". I mean do you but still irked me as someone who values WLB and is stuck in PA for now. Do a lot of the higher levels have nothing else besides work?

I always read things like that as a sign of insecurity. If someone has to show off that "grind all the time" attitude it usually indicates that they're not working very hard at all. And they're afraid of being seen as dead weight. It also shows a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of time off, it's supposed to be refreshing and restorative. People who work on vacation are not being good employees.

like

KPMG1, then why take vacation? Just keep working.

Classic LinkedIn. That platform is insufferable. Shouldn't let it get to you though. If anything, I'd feel sorry for that person.

Thought leaders are often times hard to cover when they go on vacation. It usually a sign of captured knowledge that prevents them from actually disconnecting which can exist for many reasons including job perseveration and lack of ability to train. That being said, those types of comments/posts remind me I would never want their job and would likely not want to be a direct report to them if they can’t appreciate they my time off is time off, not time away.

you shouldn’t care about what a higher-up says in audit, one would hope that auditor is a stepping stone to a real job later on so the fact that they’re still in audit speaks volumes

like

Don't read too much into a "like". But to answer your general, question many people, not just higher-ups, do get trapped in a "can't take a vacation" mode. It's not really that they having nothing else to do besides work. It's that once that pattern starts, it becomes an expectation.

like

I pity those people because they obviously don’t have a great life outside of work. I do find a lot of senior leaders will take time off but will not go a whole week without checking in at all.

like

Well, ya. The divorce rate amongst Partners is frightening.

like

Good thing is if you felt that way, I'm sure many others felt the same way, so in the end the person probably made themselves look like an idiot

like

Don't read too much into someone liking a post. It could mean anything. Could be a friend of theirs. Could be they *somewhat* agree. Could just be a drive-by or trying to look cool.

You'll make yourself crazy trying to analyze people's upvotes and reactions.

like

Maybe it was an accidental like, as for whatever reason LinkedIn has very sensitive buttons on iPhone’s. Or a facetious like? Ya never really know. Unless you already knew this manager, and it makes 100% sense why they liked it.

like

Workaholic who drinks the PA KoolAid but for all I know could have been accidental or just a friend of hers - can't say for sure.

Hey CGI folks, from where can I see current year holiday list for 2021 in India?

I’ve worked at places that all have different holiday policies. EA has at minimum a nice 10 day shutdown from Christmas Eve through New Years. It’s great to know that there will be no slack messages or an exploded inbox to come back to while away. I’ve been at other studios that only give you Christmas Eve & Day and New Years Eve & Day and then the rest is up to you to request for PTO and this is obviously the suck.

Wonder what it’s like for you?

Hello everyone! How do you manage holiday pay when the holiday is on a Saturday/ Sunday. For example, if I have someone working on Christmas (Sunday), they should be paid 1.5 but what if they work on Monday as well?I know this might sound silly to some people but I’m covering for payroll for the holidays and I don’t want to mess up!

I work in a sucky IBM cic, making $54k. It’s a full time job with regular benefits and vacation etc, it’s working with government clients. The job isn’t what I applied for & constantly changes. I don’t like that, but I’m a full time employee which is “stable employment”. Btw, I’m in the DC area.

I just got hired for a government contract through Accenture for a Business Analyst role. Pay is $65 per hour. 3 year contract. Benefits too. No PTO. Holidays off with pay, after 90 days.

For all you retail people...are you experiencing a very slow holiday season? I am a retail manager and I feel like this season has been freakishly slow. I thought we would at least match last year's number or be up a little bit but we are trending down. I talked to employees of other stores in the mall and they are saying the same thing. Is anyone else experiencing this in their market?

I need help. I'm dealing with multiple losses in the same week and having a hard time... I took some time off from work but I have no motivation to do anything. I don't want to go back to work and don't care about my work right now. I want to quit but I don't want to make a rash decision but need a long break. It's also not fair to my team that I can't give it my 100%. What can I do?
