SC at Deloitte or M at a public (but less well known) IT firm? Same pay, slightly better benefits at IT firm. Basically, how much is that brand name worth in the long run?

Go where the $$$ is

SC at deloitte = M at EY, so titles don’t actually mean much. Follow the $$.

And if the $ is basically the same?

Decide based on career goals and opportunities. A couple considerations: 1. The M title will make higher level exits available to you than an SC title would, even if the responsibilities are the same. 2. The IT firm, if it isn't a consultancy, will likely have better WLB and less stress. You won't have to worry as much about utilization, sales, or firm initiatives. 3. Salary progression is probably better/faster at Deloitte. Getting to Manager and getting a 25% pay bump in 2 maybe 3 years is doable, and another bump after that to SM in 3 years too. Does the IT firm have the same growth? What are your career goals? Is the IT firm a consulting firm, or something else?

Is this reasonable or am I missing something? I started maxing my 401k from year 1 and I hope to have $5 million or more by the time I retire around 60. Wouldn’t it make sense to put all of my yearly $19,500 401k contribution to ROTH 401k instead of traditional 401k? My reasoning is that I would pay 35% tax now and my remaining 65% would grow tax-free in ROTH 401k…. versus traditional 401k where I deposit 100% but every distribution will be taxed 35% assuming I make a lot in retirement.

Are there any good ways to make money outside of a typical career job? I’ve tried audit and currently in advisory. The job just makes me depressed, and I’m thinking the accounting space just isn’t for me. My husband works, so I don’t have to worry with medical benefits etc if I quit. We don’t have kids yet so I need something to keep me busy, and I would like to still have an income and make decent money. Any ideas?

I’m curious to hear from people at other firms what is offered in terms of part time work or alternative work options for people that don’t really care about making partner and might want to work part time. I just had my second child and want to ask to come back from maternity leave on a part time basis but our firm doesn’t seem to have anything in place right now. If your firm offers this, what’s the billable requirement, how much of a pay cut is it, and do you still get benefits? Thanks!
