Anyone have any idea how a role in Wealth management would be at Merrill Lynch? Just met the SVP randomly when I was picking up food, we started talking about cars and he gave me his contact info & said to reach out. Anyone have an idea on Junior level compensation (1-2 yoe) and what wlb would be like? Merrill Lynch

I worry I would get bored at big tech. Don’t see the appeal of working on a search engine or ads
EY-P1 I was concerned about the same thing. Try looking into central functions like finance, PM etc. These kind of roles provide support across all lines of business. That is what I ended up doing!
I love what I do in consulting. I have been in both consulting and industry, and consulted for tech where I was able to see plenty of behind the scenes at FAANG. At one FAANG company, it was so awful that a fellow partner and I took a walk during a break and both said we’d never want to work there after this experience… lots of dysfunction, poor processes disguised as “innovation” and “entrepreneurial” but really just a mess, with lots of people who thought they were the smartest in the room but weren’t actually open to diverse or unique ideas. The work I do in consulting is impactful and meaningful, and I build great relationships with my clients and teams. For me, it’s just a really great fit.

I had a good SM out of VA tell me, “you have to give yourself license to like this job”
Take that for what it’s worth but some people really like this job. I once did but after getting royally screwed at YE, the kool aid went sour.
There are good people at this place and good, rewarding work to be done. It’s just such a crapshoot to find it with the bureaucracy the Deloitte leadership creates.
The firm has gotten so big, to them it’s not worth fixing. They think the Deloitte brand will replenish the talent pipeline.
Could not agree more. One of the biggest reason I left was because most of the leaders I have worked with are just awful. I’ve met some good ones, but they are hard to come by.
How long were you at Deloitte and what was your role there? I think most people are using co silting as a stepping stone to get where you are
About 4 years started with AIM, which later became A&C.
It’s Deloitte. Other consulting firms offer significant advantages compared to tech in some of those areas. Deloitte isn’t one of them.
How much of that is stock appreciation? Without I’d wager your friend is making more like 400k. Other consulting firms will pay higher than that for the SM equivalent level which you can make around that age. Also consulting has a much higher earnings ceiling than tech. Tech has its advantages but it’s not better than all consulting firms in every facet.
This makes me feel better about my decision. I’m exiting in 2 weeks!
Grats KPMG! What role are you transitioning to?

That’s the plan for me OP. Which big tech did you end up going to?
I wanna do the same. What type of role did you do at D?
I did various roles - more of a generalist. I have a Data Engineering background so I could balance functional and technical role, ranging from PMO to developer work.
Just did 1 year of IT Audit and exiting for FAANG as a PM. I'm hoping the new role gives me the opportunity to build out a better skill set.
Yes I like my job and find it intellectually stimulating and financially rewarding.
I like it! But Im still kind of new and like helping people.
You hiring?
Not now! Budget is tight due as we try to recover from 2020.
