Should I get the CAPM or go straight for the PMP?

I currently work for the fed government as a contract specialist for 2.5 years but have been thinking about making career change to project management. I also have a masters in public administration. I know you need 3 years of experience in PM to get a PMP but I wanted to know if it would be possible to sit for the exam without the experience? I mean I technically have 6 more months until I obtain the 3 years of experience. Thought?

Has any PM at an agency switched to client side? I feel like it’s mostly account people who easily transition to client side. By the looks of job descriptions, it sounds like I’d need to be an account executive prior to becoming a brand manager...which I don’t know if I financially do this as AEs make $20-30K less than I do.

My husband and I are thinking of starting a family relatively soon. However, I get a ton of anxiety thinking about having kids and working at an agency just dealing with demanding clients, having poor work life balance, and a lot of unnecessary stress. What has worked for all of you? Have you found roles outside of agencies or established better work/life balance in your current roles? I just don’t know how to translate my skills into a non-agency job without an MBA or something.

Tired of all the respectability politics. Just once I want to write what I really mean in an email or tell a client what I really think of them when they ask. F*cking tired of walking on eggshells and constantly wondering if I did or said the right thing in the right way or the right tone to make sure the people around me are comfortable. Who's doing that for me at work? Nobody.

Hey fish, I’m coming up on a year post PhD and this job has drained a lot out of me. There’s not a lot I enjoy: overpromising partners, annoying clients, endless iterations (from either client or partner), poorly scoped KOL interviews, long hours… The only reason I haven’t quit is the US healthcare system’s reliance on employer provided insurance. I’ve started “quiet quitting”, as much as I hate that term. I am no longer responding to emails prior to 8AM as well as responding past 6 and not during my hour lunch break. 1. Drove home 2 hours tonight only to realize 2 hours later that I forgot my laptop bag

2. Went out of town and left meat out the freezer. Called an uber driver to use my padlock to get into my place and put it back

3. Driven off with the gas pump in my car. Twice

4. Walked in, paid for gas, walked out, got in my car and drove off

5. Forgot gyro meat in my air fryer for 2 weeks.

I think it is ridiculous that PMs are expected to take notes during client calls. The Account team should document client feedback or if the feedback is minimal, the creative team should take their own notes on what changes the client wants. Today an AM said that a new creative was used to the PM giving them notes and micro-managing their time. I told them I don't have the capacity to micro-manage the creative and that we are all adults and could take notes during the call. Am I wrong?

I think I’ve given up on the notion of Project Management and Account Management ever working in harmony.
Creatives, Strategists, Developers are great to work with, collaborative, trusting, etc. But I can count on 1 hand the number of Account folks I’ve enjoyed working with over a long career at many agencies. Anyone ever make the jump to an internal PM role with no client work?

Anyone have a MASSIVELY micromanagey boss? I've had my share but this fella takes the cake. Today I was asked to share my work in progress on some projects work. Even though I said I'd work to have things delivered by the end of the week. I've never shared or ask to see WIP work without context. It's like looking for an excuse to find something wrong.

DO YOU JUST ASSUME THE COST OF YOUR MARKETING ACTIVITIES? I am looking to allocate their cost in the marketing budget in a way that won't rely on several layers of assumptions. How do you reliably estimate the cost of different marketing activities (email, social, web, etc) when you don't have specific people or tools allocated to each function and costs are spread across many channels? Ads seems the easiest, but even then there's time and overheads... I've been looking for a reliable model.

What staff percentage should be PM? Realize it depends on many factors. My experience says 10% - digital agency (producers reduce PM need), 5% - media agency, between that for integrated on/offline.
