I wouldn’t. I’d like to be paid more if I’m bearing the cost of utilities, extra internet usage, floor space in my home, etc.
Then come into the office 5x/week
That’s how I feel. It depends on the person. I’m an introvert and have always hated working in office 5 or even 3 days a week. I’m just a better worked from home
Absolutely take the flexibility of the remote job. You can’t put a price on 15 hours of commuting per week. And the expense that it would cost you per month to commute isn’t worth the little bit extra in my opinion
whats your commuting cost and time value of money on that time?
i would but i have 3 kids w demands and a 90 min public transit commute if i go in or 40/day to park at the office
I think there is not a right answer. And very case by case. But I don’t disagree with anything mentioned here.
If anyone is interested working with a fully remote firm - dm me
Nope. The level of work is the same, remote or not and does not change the value provided.
Well my question is assuming both jobs are 100% identical in nature, why is the remote job paying less? I would not immediately decline the job but I would certainly try and negotiate for the higher value.
Your point is certainly appreciated about the costs of commuting etc. in making a final decision assuming the remote job doesn’t have flexibility. My position is that I never would want to give an impression to an employer that value of services rendered should be discounted because they are willing to let me work from another job site (ie remote).
Yes, gasoline, parking, food, etc. all cost money. Driving kid to school then back to home office and eating out of the fridge is much cheaper.
I would take a lateral in salary for fully remote hands down. Pay cut I’ll think about it and how it impacts future (short and long) goals
