Warning: I lateraled from Sidley Chicago some months ago so my opinion might be biased. With respect to your first question, I think the corporate practice is definitely a sweatshop. Everyone works crazy hours but since you are coming in at a higher class year, that should make it somewhat manageable. The firm is very conservative with the way they spend their money, so they make a lot of weird decisions for a firm that size. Generally corporate, as in other firms, is a white boys club so if you are one you will be probably be fine, and if you’re not I would make sure to have good mentors ASAP. Their training was decent when we were in person, very meh while remote. All benefits are pretty standard for biglaw, nothing amazing nor terrible. Don’t know about the 401k, didn’t explore the option while there. They didn’t give any tech stipend (they gave a headset and camera at some point to improve video-call quality), I assume they will give less now that they are going back to the office. They’re expecting people to be back in the office 2-3 days a week, but this also varies by group and people that you work with.

Another comment from another associate:Don't know about Chicago corporate culture or climate. I can tell you that there's no megabackdoor Roth and no tech stipend. However, as a 3rd year and billing 2400 hours with good reviews I got a bonus that was 80% above market.
In Chicago you get a laptop that you carry back and forth. They pay 50/mo for data.
I’m not in the Chicago office. There’s a tech stipend of $750 every two years, and $50/mo towards your phone data plan. Some offices may reimburse for certain home equipment as well (they did earlier on in the pandemic, at least). Remote work depends on office & group. Standard benefits. As a senior, you may be eligible for a management certificate.
