I worked for IBM for 7 years. Forced to work 60 hours a week and only pidd my contract 38 hours. Thought I was doing the right thing. My parents both got sick and eventually passed away. Immediately iBM found out I was needing time off I was told good by over the phone. The termination notice had to be hand delivered but it was emailed to me.
There organisations do not care about their employees. You are w cost to them. After my parents died I tried to get back into the the work scene but told I was over 55 anne had no possibility.
I had worked my whole life for these type of selfish companies..
I'm so sorry this happened to you but it's not you. It's their selfish $$$ calculator as you are a cost not a benefit
Whomever told you there's no possibility of getting "back into the work scene" after 55 is complete BS. I know several people, including myself, that have gotten new positions well after 55. If you have the necessary skills and experience for the position, you're still a strong candidate after that age.
Sorry to hear that. I’ve been thru that myself. In the end, you realize that all the corporate cheerleading, and talk about “teamwork” is feel-good bullsh!t. It’s all about the money. Tell them want they want to hear, and take them
for all you can. NEVER sacrifice your family time, or put yourself into a compromising position for ANY job.
So sorry to hear this, such bad form. get them to at least pay for this as a parting gift https://sunnyfuture.circle.so/c/start-here
I always try and avoid letting someone go during holidays and other key dates. Try and focus on the fact that its just business. Use the time to recharge your batteries and spend time with family.
Sorry that happened to you. Well, the upper management must have a Christmas bonus and what is the better way do consolidate the budget before Jan !!? It's what it is. Never liked that company anyways. Good luck and keep your head up
Its awfule timing agrred- good luck. what was your role at deloitte- consulting on companies rightsizing, downsziing, cutting headcounts, M&A ?!
I got mine right after the holidays. CEO had this Caribbean vacation he didn't want to interrupt by cutting my guts out. Swell, swell guy.
Was the layoff truly unexpected? Were sales figures discussed during monthly or quarterly all-hands meetings? Having worked in the industry for over two decades, I’ve noticed that whenever there were layoffs (more than 13), there were clear warning signs everywhere. Of course, there’s a shock when the layoffs are announced, but they were never truly surprises. I strongly advise everyone to review the company’s financials and gain a comprehensive understanding of its performance. If hiring ceases, spending is reduced, and travel restrictions are implemented, these are all significant indicators that the company’s situation is deteriorating, and layoffs may be imminent. Stay vigilant, keep an eye on the news, and maintain a small financial cushion in case of a layoff.

I don’t think you know what Deloitte does as a company…
In Europe you cannot do this; you have to give them at least some period to adjust to the idea and maybe find another job in the same or other company
Don't give up on employment after 55. My first FAANG gig started at 57 in a mid/senior role. Two promos and 4 years later TC hit 1m usd.
A layoff gives company stock a boost. Great for yearend bonuses. I worked for one company that would do that almost yearly before Thanksgiving to save them from paying for that holiday, too. They would hire again after the first of the year.

Got laid off right before Christmas after being told in November I was good til the end of 2025 we are just an azz in a seat a number easily removed and jettisoned
Sorry you had to go through this. The layoff season is crazy, hope you get something soon 🙏
