Be clear about your career goals short and long term, but also balance it with selling your transferable skills that can adopt to a wide set of roles.
Do your market research on google and the tech industry, and how your current and past jobs are successful in said industry.
Submit resignation at your current job.
Nail the google call and move on.
Google has a very unique interview process, not like other companies. I would recommend you tubing “how to interview with google”, this will give you an idea of the heavy situational questions they ask, almost before they ask anything about you. Def do the research upfront! Also, be cautious that BCG and other firms have not done any lay offs, Google just did a recent sweep of them. Something to consider.
They will probably start with asking what you do in your current role. Explain that in a way that demonstrates your hard skills as well as transferrable soft skills. When asked about the next step in your career, try not to focus too much on titles, and instead tell them what you envision your role to encompass, and what would you like to gain from it.
Initial calls are mostly for the recruiter to know you, and then map your profile to any existing job they might have.

So what, Google recruiters just reach out to people and say, "We don't have a specific role to fill in mind, but we want to talk to you"?
