So I just recently received an offer from a big four firm for audit. I have 2 busy seasons of experience at a smaller firm but I haven’t been employed since early summer 2019. I took time off to take a break from the field,travel and figure out what was next. I then started interviewing for positions at the end of Jan 2020 but then the pandemic hit shortly after and people were getting laid off, so obviously nothing landed. Now I finally got my shot and with a big four no less. (See rest below.)

Made a career pivot to another agency. During the interview we talked about how it may start as initially a "step backwards" (pay/benefits) but has potential for more long term growth. First day was yesterday. Had no communication about when or where to show up, sat in an empty office for about half an hour before a couple people finally showed. No phone call or email. Sent an email to the founder, no response. I could easily get my old job back if wanted.

What would you do in this situation?

I have a weeklong vacation planned in the next few weeks, and right now I don’t see any issues with getting coverage while I’m gone. However, I’m a junior attorney and I’ve been low on hours the past few months, and my work has just started to really pick up. I’m afraid that taking vacation might stop the momentum/end up in me having less work when I get back. Is this something I should consider delaying my vacation over, or am I overthinking this?

I accepted a new job, they said PTO was “generous.” I find out it’s 19 days a year of PTO (which includes sick days). I have two young children and we like to vacation 1-2x a year (no more than a few days away each time). Am I crazy that this is pretty limited time off? 8 of the normal holidays off during the year (working the week between Christmas and NYE). Thoughts? I dont know if lack of PTO is a good reason to back out, is it?

Is this a good time to look for new opportunities? I'm hearing rumors about significant layoffs starting. Also, what is the salary expectation for a 3rd year in Chicago small firm? Midsize? Is there a big difference for suburban firms?

Expecting to hear if I got the job by Tuesday but have an interview the same day. How do I ask for time to think it over if I get an offer and how do I get the interview people to possibly speed it up so I can decide between the 2? I don't want to accept and then decline a few days later.. 😩

I finished a third round interview, and HR contacted me that afternoon saying I had positive feedback across the board and they would contact me the next day regarding next steps. It’s been two days and they finally get back to me saying they haven’t been able to sync with the hiring manager but will keep me posted. Honestly I wish they would talk with the hiring manager and then let me know the decision instead of checking in. It’s messing with my emotions.

Took a role out of desperation and it was a big mistake. The firm was toxic and crazy revolving door. After only a few months I was fired "for cause" even though no cause was actually given. Is this the end of my career?
