I recently started GC with EY law. I haven’t seen any case process since late august and there are a few items past due. The lawyers are not responding to my emails, does anyone know how to get a better sense of case progress and possibly to get the lawyers to speed up the process? Thanks! EY

Data Analytics tools like Power BI and learn SQL. Do couple of projects, get MBA.
No one needs an mba to do fpa. Fp&a is management accounting hate to break it to you, unless we’re talking about strategic finance roles. No one from legitimate mba programs is competing to break into fpa. The poster should apply confidently and not worry about what LinkedIn says about applicants, many are ineligible
Fp&A is actually a highly competitive area where I would argue accounting knowledge isn’t actually very important, like at all. As long as you understand high level fundamentals, like what is revenue va deferred revenue etc the difference maker is your financial modeling acumen + technical skills like advanced excel for drafting, +PBI or Tableau and sql for implementing forecast dashboards. FP&A and BI functions are one in the same in the best organizations
I’m a sfa at a mid sized tech company making about 160k total comp with expectation to manager this cycle so hopefully breaking 200k tc
A lot of investment bankers that want better wlb would look for fp&a and corp dev so you’re essentially competing with them
Ensure you’re tailoring your resume as to how your accounting expertise translates to FP&A. Focus on the analytical aspects of your job, managing budgets/forecasts, etc. even tho it’s an audit budget / hours forecast. I went from B4 audit to FP&A but was lucky the hiring team said they always hire accountants because in times of layoffs, you can teach accountants FP&A but you can’t teach FP&A ppl accounting. That’s the biggest asset you have is being able to fully translate both languages although they are very different careers.
While some software knowledge will help, so much of it is still done in Excel. PPT skills are also useful as exec decks / board decks are much more commonplace in finance. I wouldn’t focus so much on certifications for finance (I hardly know any who have them to be honest). I think reframing your resume and connecting with the right ppl will ultimately be what helps set you apart and get that first finance role. Plenty of ppl have made the switch so just keep trying and networking as much as you can!
FP&A roles usually go to those leaving IB/high finance or MBA. Accountants usually get Sr Accountant/Controller roles. The job market is also bad now.
