Yes, because it's exhausting and I hope to raise my own children one day as opposed to taking care of adult children around me forever.
Leaving adland is like moving to Canada . A threat more than a promise
Just burnt out on digital/agency life. Maybe move to the mountains and become a backcountry mountain guide.
Only been in the ad world for a few years and ready to leave. Trying to figure out the best way to switch industries.
This makes me sad. We shouldn't be forced to leave. Hoping/praying as more millennials take up leadership positions this will start to shift.
I'll be less cynical after I get a much deserved raise after 3 years of a "freeze."
I'm not forced to leave. I'm just personally disillusioned. Don't feel like I'm growing anymore, just going in circles being stuck doing the exact same thing and no one caring about utilizing my expertise to improve or make smart choices so I got bored and stopped caring. It's literally a meaningless field to me and I've grown to have a moral issue with it as well.
AE1, one I'm OK sharing is certified professional coach. And I know I've made the right decision by posts like this one and numerous others. I don't think I'll be doing this full time or in any way enough to support myself financially. Just one of several supplemental income streams I have in mind to change my lifestyle and work schedule and above all, feel like I'm contributing. For the others, yes, I'm looking at entry level/starting over from scratch. May even do some "silly" jobs just to give myself a break from everything and time to think and polish my strategy for what's next.
Don't want to be the care bear or cheerleader here, but if you fight the good fight, stay principled and collaborate with talented folks, you can still put some valuable ideas into the world. It's a pain. And sometimes you're dealt a shitty hand with no outs. But if you don't let that crush you another chance to make something you can be proud of usually comes about. Just remember it's a team sport and cynicism is the opposite of creativity.
I have, this time for the second time and for real. Currently going through a couple of certifications. And actively looking in a variety of areas, broadly speaking talent management, career development, consulting. I have more specific avenues I'm pursuing but not up for sharing on here at this stage. But all drawing from current strengths and experience and things I'm good at but also enjoy doing. That took and is still taking lots of reflection + discovery. Simply exploring jobs out there has opened my eyes to some things I had never thought about that I like doing and have experience in, but had not looked at them that way. Lots of reframing.
I've worked retail jobs. And i've worked corporate jobs. And even tho the ad world is a lot of pomp and circumstance surrounding selling the public shit they don't need, it's THE most laid back environment i've worked in. So long as I like the client accounts i'm on, i'm staying for awhile, until I want to possibly move back to corporate side or something else.
AD1, what certs are you getting and where? I'm thinking about switching careers too (possibly talent management). Was wondering if I have to start as an intern??

I'm not quite sure which is why I'm still where I am. Building an interesting brand from the inside/brand side. Political consultancy. Not sure.
Strat1, one of my good acquaintances is a political consultant in D.C. Don't do it, it's like advertising x 10000%, terrible hours and tremendous stress.
I'm tired of looking at ads and sites and headlines thinking about how I could have done better or the work that went into it. Thinking about a switch to product - the psychology of how people use tools is super interesting to me.
Strategist - where would you go?! Looking for inspiration
Thank you, I figured, it was mostly a soul cry
