Since January 2020, I became laid off from my job working full-time and remotely for a Southwest Florida urologist that I worked for about 10 years. no it seemed I was going to get my job back around July of last year, he decided to create a partnership with an oncologist who had his own marketing team. Because of the partnership, it looks like I can only work freelance for them now.

I get there are stealth layoffs happening, but those are at the small minority of firms that were actually able to hire the last 2 years.

Just got benched, been completely billable till now, how long until I should be worried about potential layoffs? (Even though management is “committed” to not letting people go during covid)

Ok so I've read or heard about layoffs recently from all big four except KPMG (obviously with the worst being at Deloitte and PwC and then some at EY in specific teams or sectors). Continued below:

I’m finding that a weird side effect of losing my job in this climate is ad agencies taking advantage of my weakened position. They get in touch, proactively or in response to my reaching out, and they want to hire me as they are in good shape. When I reveal I was laid off, the offer changes to freelance or maybe nothing. My work, awards, the fact that they know me and approached me in the first place should be enough. I don’t want to lie about my situation. Any ideas how to avoid this?

How do you tow the fine line between sticking up for yourself and not talking back to a partner? For context, our firm has seemingly started making a paper trail for layoffs and I disagree with some of the emails that I have received. I want to respond in a way that covers my own ass. However, I don’t want to piss anyone off, especially if I have read the situation incorrectly.

I was affected by layoffs about a month ago and urgently looking for a good immigration lawyer. The lawyer should be experienced in handling this 60 day grace period situation and developing alternate strategies - such as change of status to B1/B2 or applying to jobs from India. On the 2nd week of joining i got allocated to a project(100% utilization) its been 3 months, the project did not kickstart.. had few meetings but no work at all. I have been doing couple of certificates though. Can i be in trouble for this? Will job security be affected?

Any companies looking for experienced hire Planning/Supply Chain professional with >10yoe in industry? An old coworker was laid off from a retailer, and was an excellent Planning Manager when I worked with her.

Staff sent out paper AR confirms and got them back. Manager saw them and asked why their wasn't fold marks. Turns out staff forged signatures cause he didn't send them. Partner came out and fired him!

How do you prepare for certifications (Oracle Cloud Fusion)? I find actual implementation experience really is not very related to doing well on the certification. Any tips between doing certain trainings, buying practice exams, etc?

But the problem is they are not releasing offer letter now waiting till last week. In that situation how come I will decide which offer and company is batter for me when I have just few days before the LWD. it's very hectic situation.

1 year out of school w/ 6 months of experience doing contract work as an ERP consultant , currently working with a strategy firm (6 months ) ... liked the technical stuff way more . But both are startups and feeling discouraged because I can’t seem to land an interview anywhere in the industry for any type of entry level consulting roles . Got an offer from big firm but blew it because clearance process took too long . Should I give up and switch industries ? No idea what to do ...

Thoughts on the federal government’s direct hiring authority? I think it’s counterproductive and potentially unethical. There is often little vision or actual critical need behind using this authority other than quick and easy hiring, and in my opinion, unnecessarily increasing the size of the federal workforce.

I interviewed with a federal agency last Tuesday. Interview was with the director of the office and was told it was a “non competitive” process which I understand means the director can hire without additional ranking, etc. I think the interview went well and I sent a follow up thank you same day.
