TCS Whitefield(13kms from my home) and IBM Manyata Tech( 23 kms). Joining date May 1st week. Offered almost same salary. Heard that IBM is calling back to office. Is it worth to join IBM, considering huge traffic near Manyata Tech Park? Can't change home as it's permanent. Please advise. Thanks IBM Tata consultancy sevices

Ex Biglaw folks - always makes me suspicious, since I know a number of boutique firms run by former biglaw partners with the same crazy hours and less pay. I hope they don’t overwork you. Wouldn’t hurt to ask for 90k and get the bump to 100k in writing. I would still take the job given the circumstances. Good luck!
I was in a similar situation, but in secondary market. Took the job and glad I did. Just continue looking for a better job.
Oh and btw, that firm where I found a job is also ex big Law folks. Haven’t been too bad so far and wouldn’t worry about that. What’s more important is more stable pay/benefits and experience so that however many months down the road you could find something better. I am personally hoping that it won’t take more than 6 months to upgrade. But If it will take longer than that, not really the end of the world because you do have a stable salary in the meantime, even if not optimal.

Congrats on the new job and kudos to you for persevering diligently so long! Given how hard it’s been for you, I would absolutely take it. I agree do not count on any raise. Ride it out for a year or two, and start looking for a new job again in 2022 to get you back to a more market pay. You’ll have a lot better time in a post-covid recovering economy and with a current job on your resume, I bet.
You don’t need to disclose your current pay when negotiating for your next position if you don’t want to, and no one will question too hard that you took a decent but not optimal job in 2020/2021 given how much of a struggle bus so many people are on in this economy.

Also, up to you, but personally I would tell them “hey thanks for the offer, super excited about this opportunity. For your context I was making $140k base at my last position and was expecting to make something similar at my next position. Are you able to come up on salary?” And then probably take whatever they come back with. I don’t think it is unreasonable and will get the job reneged to just ask, but I have not been in your position specifically. They’ll probably say “unfortunately, we are a small firm and can’t come up” but there’s a lot of room between 85-140 so there might be some wiggle room and they might be expecting you to counter.
Cont. Seems like a place I could learn at ( practicing for close to 4 years in similar area). Am I fool for taking such a steep cut, given covid?
If you’re not employed currently, take the job!
