SOS just got two dream offers.

One is for an associate position at a small venture capital fund (very good profile, think fund will be successful lt) other is product strategy at a large AM (think GS, Morgan Stanley, BlackRock, JP Morgan).

Comp is about the same but would get carry at the VC firm. Leaning towards the non-VC role as I like the org and think I could be very successful in it, but am I dumb not to take the VC role??

Those are two very different dreams.
The VC job gives you more flexibility long-term and better exit opps should you ever wish to leave.
The AM role will keep you in AM as you’ll have little/no utility to anybody outside the AM world.

like

Definitely take the VC role, it sounds pretty cool

like

My 2c: VC. If BR then I might consider, especially if you're fine with how prone to scandals they are, otherwise you're somewhat second-class citizen at BB

VC - sounds like a good op. Probably easier to go vc —> am at BB than am —> vc if you ever wanted to make the change.

VC colleagues will be cooler and more interesting. It’s an industry that opens the door for a lot of exits.

That is a great problem to have. Congrats to you! VC is a riskier move given the economic environment we’re heading into. Carry is a great comp boost in good times but if the fund stops performing, the gravy train stops. Presumably during the interview process you got a sense for what each team is like to work with/for? People matter a lot and can make you a lot happier (or more miserable) than money.

Thank you! My thoughts exactly😅 early in my career and have so far only worked at a more risky company so think I need to get some brand experience and would prefer the stability right now. Ppl seem equally great at both! Maybe VC slightly more interesting but also a bit more intense

My career goal is to work remote & break into total brand strategy. Initially I'm applying for job titles like: Associate Brand Manager, Sr. Brand Specialist, CRM Manager. The core things I'm highlighting is the impact I made to the overall email marketing program (w/ stats), managing projects, & providing creative direction. I'm frustrated, any advice?

Negotiation in new offer: I’m moving from fully remote to fully in office (with chance of hybrid later) offer for associate director in quality in pharma for 170k base, 18% bonus and 75k equity. I’ve asked for a sign on bonus as I’m not eligible for annual next year and will be missing my current jobs bonus. I should hear tomorrow (asking for 28k). Thoughts about the offer? Should I ask for more equity or is that standard? They’re public (currently ~$20)should I get the hybrid option in writing?

Hey all! I’m 30 years old. About to close on a house with a 5.75% fixed 30 yr mortgage. If you were me and your goal was to maximize your net worth by retirement, would you put a few thousand dollars extra into paying down the house faster or invest that extra money in the market? The 5.75% doesn’t feel that low but also not crazy high so I’m torn. Thoughts? 🙏

I have accepted my sexuality and found peace with the long battle of wanting to be something not what I actually am. On one side I have a lot of pressure around me being gay and trying to get a PR and get out of India, on another side I have a lot financial issues. I’m trying so hard to focus on work and to meet the expected bar for my current role. But the office politics here is toxic and always putting me down. Just wondering whether things will get better ever.
