What do you want to get rewards for? Chase points can't be transferred to delta miles but spg points can. I'm in a similar boat as you and I'm considered the plat delta Amex or spg card. Leaning to play delta for the perks.
I have the platinum delta Amex and I like the perks I get from it. I don't travel that much but when I do I get a free checked bag, priority boarding and a companion pass once a year. When I left Pwc I transferred all my Corp Amex points to the delta card
Chase is popular because of they offer good rates to gain points and you can get bonus points when you book travel with them (actual bonus depends on the card). Without traveling, I'm not sure how well you will be able to keep both status so I'd say whichever status you value more, go for that card. But delta miles can't be returned to spg points (I think). I actually did a valuation last night for chase points and delta miles for a trip I'm planning to Germany. Chase points were .01/point and delta miles were .0227/mile when compared to the dollar cost of the ticket. Chase is a solid card....if you travel a lot on personal dime.
I've found that the companion pass can be difficult to use due to fare restrictions etc. If you're local and want to keep stacking the delta miles, then it makes sense; however, I don't think the card is worth it if you travel enough to maintain status.
Also may not fly very much in the next year, client is close.
Yea that's what I'm struggling with. I have AMEX points so maybe Amex makes sense - I can pool those points together and also get SPG or delta depending on which one I pick. Trying to keep one or both statuses and may not be traveling as much soon. Why is this chase card good - is the points reward good value?
PWC: how does the companion pass work? That's a good perk that has me really keen to the plat delta.
Except for signup bonuses, I've largely shifted to cash back cards for personal expenses like the Citi Double Cash card
Ah got it, thanks all. And I guess what I'm really trying to do is accrue points for one or both, you're right it'll be hard to keep status.
Good question about the companion pass. I have no idea haha. I just remembered last night that it's one of the perks of having the card but haven't looked into it really. I don't travel for work anymore so the delta Amex is the only way I rack up points and maintain my sad silver medallion status
Delta Amex is nice because you get those sexy mqm's with platinum and reserve
