Started a new job at a small grocery store as a senior accountant. in the end of May 2024. Left working accounting in PE due to long hour, working weekends, and terrible attitudes.

I’ve notice the CFO get yelled at harsh twice now by the board. I imitated my FIRST performance meeting after 8 months and I am just hearing she’s not happy with my performance and is putting an improvement plan in place

This company has little to no procedures with a lot of work done wrong

Is this a bad team?

Is it a bad team? It sounds like they would take gold in the Olympics of bad teams. Start putting out feelers and get serious about finding something better. There's no chance the people you work with are going to improve. There's no good version of them waiting to appear. Time to accept that and move on!

This is familiar in small businesses and start ups. For you to be on an improvement plan, from experience I can tell you that there is a high chance that dismissal is on the way. I hate businesses were there are no processes and the people are hostile instead of coming together to make things work. I wish you all the best but it’s time to leave and forget about this place. I hope a job comes for you asap. 🙌🙌

Let me also say that when I ask on how things were done in the past or where previous reconciliations are saved down. Nobody knows this includes the CFO and assistant controller. Inventory is a big part of my job and neither of them are familiar with it as well

Start looking for a new job, but with the economy rn finding a job is tough for everyone, I wouldn't risk dropping a job.

Duh

Don’t expect a salary increase next year. They will come with that thing about “we need to improve, yada yada…”. Responsibilities are the only that going to increase next year. Be strategic, remain professional and “happy”, start looking for opportunities and don’t say a word to no one there!

Pass the buck attitude is exhausting.

Seems like a lot staff for a small grocery store. Is this a CFO or a family member with the title?

I was in a similar situation as you. I tried to stick it out. No onboarding plan in place. I tried to align expectations with my manager, but she never delegated anything and met with my direct reports (her previous reports) behind my back. After 16 months, my job was eliminated.

Start looking now. I wish I could say your situation would get better, but I don't think it will.

Need suggestions: So I joined this bank and I was loaned to a different director in my team due to some long term leave for one of his SMs and audit with my director was deferred. The idea was that I would be involved in Fieldwork and take over reporting part. Issue is that I just despise the way this other Director is working. He would assign a task, and then start following up the very next day. And then after I send the document, he won’t even read that for a day!! Contd in comments

My company cut staff to 4 days/wk to save funds. I was getting requests from coworkers for docs needed urgently on our day off (fridays). I would oblige them. But then, I learned that those same coworkers had been put back to 5 days because they were deemed “essential“. I felt foolish and decided to stop working on fridays. One EVP (not the GC) in particular has been aggressively texting/calling me on fridays. How Do I tactfully respond? My out-of-office email is not enough of a hint...
