Be yourself and be confident! There is a reason why they hired you. I usually look for open mindedness and the drive to learn. Wish you the best! Good luck.
Hi EY 1, thank you for sharing!
I would be looking for someone who is a self starter as they get more familiar with the firm. With the remote working environment and uncertain economy, the managers and above have had their job difficulty significantly increase. Any consultants on my team that can be an adult and do their job without needing me to hold their hand is greatly appreciated. Additionally, once more familiar, offering to jump in a help wherever needed, this also goes along with being a self starter.
This being said, during the conversation I would make it clear that you’ll be reviewing onboarding documentation and would like to review any other resources they can provide you with. And ask them what you can do to help them and their teams. Don’t be afraid to show your ambition either, you can say, once I’m more familiar with the firm, what is most important for me to show you to move up the ladder here? When I do first week onboarding with new consultants, the ones I keep my eye on (in a good way!) are the ones that tell me their ambition, and can back it up.
This is really valuable insight from your point of view - thank you for sharing!
Come up with the list of questions you have about the company and use the conversations to fill in your understanding.
Hi, thank you for sharing!
Over-communicate and state that you are doing it as a conscious decision because of the virtual environment.
Hi, thanks for sharing! Definitely agree - in general I have found being over-communicative in a remote setting to be more productive unless told otherwise, so good reminder to carry that forward.
