Received an offer as Engagement Director from Salesforce (CSG, pre sales, L9). Great benefits package, 40% increase in total comp and better WLB.
I do love the people in my practice and current client, but career trajectory has stalled after taking parental leave earlier this year and (yet another) change in leadership.
Realistically, making to Director is 2-3 years away and will require sacrificing time with my family that I am not prepared to give up.
Should I stay or should I go?

Depends on where you think $AMZN is headed
Would say that McK is probably the surer and more well trodden bet for progression.
Congrats on the offer!
Agreed with BCG1!
AWS hands down - wlb at McK is Terrible
While McKinsey has the “prestige”, it is important to remember how incredible AWS is. They have created a whole industry (SaaS) and have plenty of years worth of substantial growth left. If your plan is to stay in Tech, I’d say AWS. If you want to pivot industries, McKinsey.
AWS main offering is IaaS and PaaS…. Do you guys even work in tech? Lmao
McK has been hiring few folks from cloud providers (Google, Amazon n Msft ) for their cloud practice.
Pros: There is definitely upside of pay n sometimes challenging projects
Cons: it’s going to be tough transition. Usually tough for experienced hires to get used to McK without prior consulting experience.
Coming in as expert AP ur expected to work in ur domain (cloud) n considering that Amazon has a better reputation than McK for cloud ur exit opportunities may be better with Amazon compared to McK
Excelling at McK as an experienced hire, especially within digital, will be very challenging. Only go if you have a clear idea what stepping stone this represents to the next position.
💯- joining McKinsey at the AP level is very difficult as you’re responsible to staff yourself and you won’t have the network to get into the best projects. It depends on your sponsors creating opportunities for you, so if work that out ahead of time with whoever is recruiting you.
For someone as senior as you, even asking this question is weird :)
Do you like staying at AWS? What is your 5 year role at A? What will your role and targets be at M?
Just asking comp trajectory shows how professionally immature you still are. Sorry.
You’re not wrong. I’m a 29 year old overachiever
What role at AWS and Mckinsey?
What’s ur role at AWS? For how long u have been with AWS? What’s the role with Mck?
Wow. I’m going Amazon to mck but L4 SDE to BA. Very impressive set of options you got. Hope I’ll be there at some point. Interesting that mck thinks the skills from Amazon are transferable. I haven’t met many at amazon that seem to have this level of project management skill. Maybe just my org/circle.
Only looking at the upside potential of Comp trajectory, McK is better.
However, as others have said, it's tough to join as an AP and make it to partner, a lot of people don't make it and you need to factor that in.
If you're happy at AWS, like your job, and see yourself growing there, I wouldn't take it.
