Strongly looking to switch to an SA role but not at Amazon (pip, less comp). Which other FAANG has a similar role? Not looking for gTech (Google) and similar customer engineer positions.

Pip is more a thing with SDEs. I have never seen an SA piped. Hyper growth in the AWS SA org. We always need more SAs. Microsoft has a similar position. Dont know what it's called though

Thanks!

1. Is the SA role still going to be travel heavy in post-Covid world? I do favor traveling.

2. How does the SA career track progress? Once you get hired as L5/L6, what’s the next step?

It was not very travel heavy pre-covid. Maybe travel once a month. If you support local customers then even lesser travel. So expect the same post covid. If you come in at L6 the next path is L7 as an IC. You specialize in a service, industry, or broader areas like security, compliance, devops and so on. Other path is L6 SA Manager and then L7 Sr SA manager as your org grows (has been happening organically last few years). I personally enjoy the SA role but at crossroads of whether I want to go down the manager path or the L7 IC path. Lets see.

Thank you, great points and detailed answer!

OP, if you don’t mind, can you please share why you’re looking to leave McKinsey? Seems like they have a big push to bring in tech talent. How is it over there?

That’s really helpful, thanks OP.

Could you define SA and PIP please? :)

Understood thanks for clarifying. Any differentiation between AWS vs the rest of AMZN.

I currently work at a medium sized firm and have about two years experience in personal injury litigation. The billable hours and lack of work life balance are really getting to me and I am looking to switch to something else out of litigation, preferably in house. I am also looking to relocate to a different state. How do I go about properly marketing myself to companies that might not take my relocation and minimal experience seriously?

Hello!

I finished my final round(s) for a TAM position at
Google (GCP) last week and was told by my recruiter that my feedback was great and that I made a solid impression on the team and am "firmly in the running". I was supposed to hear back this week (according to the recruiter) but he just told me that it's still in the process and that I'll have to wait for another week or so.

Is this common at Google ? I have heard they are notorious for being really slow with their hiring process.

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

What do you do when you need a sub? What kinds of plans work best for subs in the Spanish classroom? I have needed subs lately and have found it hard to plan lessons that aren’t just busy work.

I spoke with a recruiter recently about a position in her company and before we even began talking about the job, she asked if I needed an sponsorship, I told her no, I dont need one. But she continued to press on the subject until I had to tell her I was a US citizen. I dont know why, but the whole conversation made me extremely uncomfortable. So my question is, can recruiters ask you about your visa/immigration status even when I told her I didnt need a sponsorship??
