Tell me the real deal of the value of a law degree. I know some lawyers living like Ballers and I hear others are debt ridden and middle class. What’s the deal? Should I make a career change from IT

Are you willing to work at a law firm? Till the wee late hours in the night? Only folks making 2M a year are partners and it takes a lot of sweat to get there. I’d say no, but I’m happy with much less than 2M a year.

I don’t really want to work for a law firm. I don’t even know what the day and life entails. I wanted to know more about Law regarding Intellectual Property.

I used to be in IP law, and the tide has shifted especially for patents. I would never recommend anyone to get into it now. I would advise you get into litigation to make partner. You have to like working alone, the law is very isolating field unless you work in large litigation teams. Your work is judged everyday and you have to be able to take criticism from the top. I would also advise you shadow or work at a boutique firm before you go to law school.

Equity partners make 2 million. Non-equity partners less so. To even get to partner, you’re pulling in 80 hour weeks. Most people quit big law in 2-3 years and most people i know are seeing a therapist (psychologist, psychiatrist, or both)

I have the funds to pay for law school, should I go through it? My goal is to earn 2 million a year. I don’t see it in IT. My current yearly is salary is 250k a year.

I currently work at an international law firm (4 years) and recently accepted an offer to go in house. The main attorney I support did not take the news well and was very angry with me.
