Thank god
Am from Houston. Houston has the second lowest test rate out of all the states. My wife is in nursing school and for clinical they are having her working at a call center, screening people to take the test. They run out of tests (250) in like 3 hours (of what’s supposed to be a 7 shift). Texas is purposefully not testing, so don’t trust those numbers you see.
I read the article, what is the issue? I don’t see anything wrong with Abbott’s approach here.

Like the blue mayors of DFW/Houston/Austin/SA care what the red governor says? I don't expect the big cities to do anything stupid or rash.
The same thing they did when he declared stay home a week after they did ! And even then he only declared stay home, most mayors put a shelter in place
I feel like 3 things need to happen to reopen:
1. Testing needs to be readily available for all people, turnaround time for results under 24 hrs compared to the 3-5 days now.
2. A vaccine to prevent or treat the virus needs to be available.
3. The number of new cases needs to go down, granted in Texas this is low relative to NY/NJ.
Vaccine likely won’t be available for at least a year. Unlikely that stay at home orders are able to last that long. It would be complete anarchy as the economy would more or less have completely collapsed and people would be looting grocery stores for food
He issues his after all the mayors had anyways, the mayors will keep them ! Hopefully they have more sense
I’ve been going back and forth on this. I live in Dallas and the spread has been very slow. Not sure we are ready to resume life as normal, but it does seem like we won’t be affected as badly as the NE
We’re also hitting the limit on tests every day before early afternoon at our testing sites. There’s no way these numbers are accurate
I live in MI. They were bragging about how few cases we had, but they weren’t testing. Finally testing and now we are third in the county. Stay home and stay safe. If you go out, wear a mask.
How many people hospitalized and dead would be significant to you???

I have a shelter in place until the end of the month. Nothing more than ten people, at least when I cancelled my wedding a bit back, until like 5/11. In texas

I hope your reading comprehension at work is better
But I understand this is just the plan and it will take time to roll out, I just wasn’t expecting the talks to happen this soon granted the number of new deaths/cases skyrocketing across other states

If you look at the models, most places really do not look like NYC. The entire state of Texas is predicted for a few thousands deaths by end of August. I can see why some states are starting at moving the dates up
Those models assume the current “stay at home “ orders continue.
The models assume social distancing through May and not eternity.
