The job I was laid off from was remote, but I'm worried that applying for remote-only jobs limits my options in the current job market. Does anyone have any tips for transitioning back into an office setting after over 4 years of being remote?

Yeah i think it'd be smart to apply to remote and hybrid roles for sure. Transitioning back to the office after being remote for so long can be overwhelming, but you'll adjust quickly. One tip is to start by mentally preparing for a more structured schedule and in-person collaboration. You could also visit the office beforehand to get a feel for the environment. You'll do great!

like

Thats good advice! I will admit my schedule has definitely been lax since my layoff so I could stand to add a little structure to ease the transition.

It will definitely take some adjusting. My biggest challenge when I returned to the office was purchasing an entire wardrobe that was office friendly. Spent too much money, so set aside something for the first few months if you don't have the right dress code. Remember to take breaks when it's time to. It's important to give your brain a reboot. And don't pretend to make small talk with people you don't even connect with, as long you interact with your colleagues when need be. I still miss the level of freedom I got from remote work. I hope you get at least a hybrid role, the best of both worlds.

like

All of your points are fantastic advice, but I hadn't even considered the wardrobe aspect! That's such a good point

Assuming you've worked in an office before, it's not that hard to get back into it. When I had to go back last year I didn't like it, but after a few days it felt normal again. In some ways I enjoyed have the office camaraderie again. Had I known I'd be laid off this year I probably would have felt different about it, but at the time being back in the office was not a huge problem.

That's good to know someone has successfully been through it before! I was in-office my entire working career up until my last role but going back somehow still seems so daunting

Hello. My district is currently remote (virtual) and I am teaching a chemical reactions unit. Usually, this is a hands on unit. I cannot do hands-on labs for equity reasons. Anyone have suggestions on free simulations I can use? I teach synchronously to my students 2 classes (2 hours total ) each week.

CTR, contracts and department overhaul

our marketing dept is undergoing a complete overhaul. under old leadership, a $75k 12-mo contract was signed to a marketing group that handles our SEO, blog and everything Google Ads. All things I can and am in training to do. Current CTRs on G ads seem pitiful at no more than 0.75%. My meta ads coast around 4-6%. During this overhaul, would it be wise to not renew our contract, and negotiate for me to take over these roles and leverage a raise?
