The job market is tough right now and I am thinking about going back to the company that laid me off last year. Does anyone have advice? Is this a bad idea?

Following. I was thinking the exact same thing! I saw the job posting and was considering reaching out to the hiring manager. I have a job right now, but loved my old one. I haven’t yet, but think about it more than I should.

I don’t have a new job yet, just been consulting. Can’t say I even loved my old job or company. Just need a full time salary again.

Can I ask which company?

A consumer tech company

A job is a job right now. Go back, save up some cash and look for something else later if you don’t like it there.

Good advice. I just applied

like

For now it's better to take any job and have income and benefits until a better and more stable opportunity is exteneded your way. Plus it is easier to find a job when you have one, so I'd give it a chance. Are you assured you'll land the job? It would look good on your resume that this company hired you back and show that they made a mistake letting you go in the first place. That would be a nice piece of evidence that you are good at your job.

I’m not assured I’d land the job. But it’s basically the same job I was doing before I got laid off … so I think I’ve got a good shot at it

like

Wouldn’t they keep you on file in case they need you back? But nevertheless, if your time there wasn't toxic, then yeah, I don't see why not

I only applied as a back up plan. Apparently they are somewhat opposed to boomerangs and only want “new blood”

Probably a bad idea - what was the reason they laid you off?
Consumer Tech Company = probably HP

Not HP. I was part of a mass layoff.

How do you best leverage a job offer when you don’t want to leave? In the running for a VP job (higher level than now) that pays $70k higher than what I currently make. I want to ask for more money, but don’t want them to see me as a flight risk or that I am not loyal anymore. Or my bigger fear is they’ll say they cannot offer me any more and then I feel like I have egg on my face. Any tips for delicately balancing this?

I prepared a presentation for an interview with a sales leader, it went well and I was offered a final interview with regional manager. The sales leader I interviewed with gave me a bunch of feedback, but said to find out information about tech stack, which I for some reason, didn’t consider. I come to find out that deep, hidden within the website of the hypothetical client, they use the service already. Do I roll into the final interview and play dumb or do i present and then come clean?

Does anyone here work for Holland America? They own Seabourn & Princess cruise ships. Recruiter reached out about a Principal Product Manager position there.

I'm two thirds through the PMA Core Certification, and the info is great but the tests are a joke. They need to contract with an educator that specializes in testing and assessment to come in and develop exams that actually measure if you know the material. The bad test design devalues the certification. Not to zero, but I definitely will not be proud to have earned it. It just means I had $1300 and sat through 15 hours of video lectures.
