The recruiter for a new job I'm interviewing for says the role pays less than my current salary, but I still want the job. The pay is still within my acceptable range. They already told me they can't match my current pay, though. Do I have any negotiating room with the hiring manager, or should I not even bother bringing up my salary again?

What you're making now is none of their concern, so there's no point in bringing it up. In some states it's not even legal for them to ask what you're making currently. If you want to negotiate, go to it, but make it about yourself and the value you would bring to the organization. Citing your current salary like you're challenging them to match it will very likely be a losing strategy.

Maybe consider negotiating other benefits too such as more vacation time and maybe this will help determine if you want to continue with them. l

Definitely wait until the offer comes in; negotiate then and like the previous person said …negotiate more time off if they aren’t willing to pay up.

like

I would wait till the final round and negotiate. They may not be able to match you, but they can probably get close. You should at least try, even if they are already preemptively telling you they can't meet what you already make.

Rough day in the office and in the mood for something that would toss me around and maybe hurt a little. Black peppercorn crusted bacon left on a smoker too long and covered in jam made from under-ripe red fruits. The 59% ABV is definitely present, and you can smell the peat smoke from across the room. The finish lasts for days. If you’re already into peated scotch but want to crank it up another level, the cask strength Laphroaigs can show you your limits. Hurts soooo good 😌

Got offered 68k after 2 years as a contractor (62.5k) doing project management/business admin in a tech department at a Fortune 500 bank. I have an A.S degree and working on my bachelor’s/masters may 2024. I negotiated to 84k NYC. I have seen interns get offered 38 per hour (79k) for internship positions with a similar role.

Thoughts? Should I go higher? I do my job well that’s why they decided to keep me as a contractor after my internship.
