I really want to move out of my parents place for social reasons etc. I still hangout with friends a lot but it’s just a hassle having to drive a hour or so to kick it with them. So my dilemma is I enjoy saving $ on rent (yes I know can’t have both) but the main reason for me moving back home is so that I can save and buy a house. VOO. I predominantly use Schwab’s robo advisor and have consistently been 8% below S&P 500. (1) based on the historical performance of VOO, am I better off shifting all of my retirement and brokerage accounts to VOO? (2) how do I do that? How should I go about this? I own two commercial rentals in heart of a tier 1 city. Opposite to my space is a mom and pop store. I have become somewhat friends with the owners of the mom and pop store over the years and they would do one of favors for me when I asked to take care of the rentals. Now the commercial rental is vacant and I have been approached by a mid size chain for potential agreement. The dilemma is that the big box store is direct competition to the mom and pop store. So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.
