Nope. Screw them.
If they can't fly you out, you don't want to go there
No. It's a preview of salary negotiations.
If they were serious, they'd cover the expenses. I was flown out for a barely above entry level position. When offered the role, was given a relo package. Don't get fucked over
@AD1...not true. We've flown people cross-country for roles fresh out of college.
@ AD1, I was flown out for an interview as a junior.
That sounds like it could be a "consider yourself lucky to work here" situation, which often enough appears to result in long hours and shitty pay.
Nope. If they really like you, they will fly you out. Doesn't matter your current level. If they don't have the funds to do it, they need to find an alternate way to make the interview happen. Otherwise I agree with a lot of folks here, sounds shady. They shouldn't be asking you to fly out on your own dime.
use it as a vacation? I figure you'll regret not going more than you'll regret going.
Fuck em, Skype it. Im not sure what the title is but I've hired out of towners based on phone call alone.
It will be awkward (and nearly impossible) to get reimbursed if they offer you a job and you turn it down.
No. Do the math - unless you are a millionaire, they have more money than you. Don't spend your money for their benefit. Skype, and offer to meet any of their people who happen to be flying to your town. Or, if you are considering a vacation near them, you could offer that up.
Are you employed now?
Manager, then there's your answer
CD1 lol I know I know. It just seems like a really cool opportunity. I talked with a few cool peeps there and everything was going well till that...
This is how it goes. You're a super star fresh out of college/ivy league//whatever they define as worth flying you if junior. Or market is small and they have to pull candidates from large markets by flying them to their less desirable location. Or, you're a senior person as in senior manager of people where right fit is a delicate matter and they'll fly folks for those interviews.
Otherwise, it's a small shop which has no money to fly you and plenty of other candidates in their market, even though they think you're kinda cool. But they don't "like you" like you / you're not a jr superstar in order to fly you. Unless YOU wanted to fly yourself, then that's cool, they'll interview you.
Nah
Shady. If they cant fund the T&E, why not facetime, hangout, zoom instead? Agree with FCB1, it's a peak into future negotiations.
No. Absolutely
Too many unknowns for solid advice. If it's not a senior position, no they're not going to fly you in.
