There are times when HR knows an employee is unhappy but also knows the business can’t meet their expectations. Retention isn’t always possible, even when you want it to be. Letting someone go versus letting them leave is a fine line.
When do you accept that retention isn’t the right outcome?

When the gap between what they need and what the business can offer isn't closing and isn't going to. Stringing someone along with vague promises because you don't want to lose them is its own kind of harm. Sometimes the honest thing is to tell them you can't give them what they're looking for and let them make a real decision.

I take the same approach with all of my employees who contemplate leaving, even employees I don't want to lose. I tell them to put the people they work with aside (which is likely why they want to stay) and tell me what they want. "If your coworkers were not in the picture, what direction would you take?" Their answer tells you the answer. At the end of the day, I want to make sure my employees are doing what is right for them too. Keeping someone for the sake of keeping them isn't good for the employer or the employee.

You don't want to retain someone who doesn't want to be there. If their negative attitude isn't affecting the team though, I don't know that they have to be let go. It really depends on how their work is.

Yeah agreed

My LWD is 18th July and I chose vendor pickup for my assets(expected pickup is 10th July).
Is there any limitation or chances of facing issues on Not having laptop with me(for other exit clearances).
Also it would be great if someone can give guidance on exit clearances as I'm worried that I will miss out something.

Hey guys, I am about to complete a year in IB, and will start the recruitment process soon for buyside roles. I think I am more interested in VC/Growth vs late stage PE, but wanted to know more about the difference in comp between the two. I am looking at roles in London, so would be great to know whose comp is higher and who are the top payers for VCs/early growth.

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?

Does a 20 year long career at Deloitte hold much value in the marketplace in light of the current economic situation? Started as a change leadership Consultant, but ultimately spent majority of my career in Resource Management and Global Mobility.

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

Have you ever taken a career slow down? I am feeling burnt out from COVID and the incremental responsibilities thrown my way over the last 5+ years. I feel like my health has deteriorated. I like my company, but I want to do less. I don’t need to be a HR Director, CHRO, etc. With a career slowdown, I am prepared for a lower compensation and would want decent benefits. Any lessons learned or success stories about career slowdowns?
