Thinking about getting my real estate license. If you have thought about doing this as well, or have done it, is it worth it? Pros and cons? Thanks in advance!

It’s incredibly hard to break into this industry and actually make money. You need a lot of networking and will have a long stretch of no money coming in. Depending on market, it may already be flooded with people. I know a ton of people who worked in restaurants for too long, had no other skills, and flipped to real estate. There’s a lot of agents out there, most not great, but it can be hard to differentiate yourself.

This my friend went into real estate and it worked for her for a while but it was not sustainable so she went back to school and got a marketing job

I got my real estate license back in college before I even graduated. It’s pretty easy to get and relatively inexpensive. I pay around $55/month to maintain. Like many other commenters said, it’s a very tough industry to break into. Everyone knows someone that is an agent. It’s very tough in today’s world where people have 24/7 access to Zillow and want to see everything right now.

I’ve only closed on 3 deals as an agent. My parents, my best friend, and myself. In all 3 of those cases, it was absolutely worth it. Especially my own. It was nice to help my loved ones buy without pressure bc I wasn’t earning a living this way. It was just a side gig. That being said, it requires a lot of attention that can be hard to maintain with a 9-5.

Career-wise it would be a no from me personally but having your license definitely doesn’t hurt.

It's not a career for the vast majority of people. Very oversaturated and hard to sustain.

Did you enjoy your last job search (networking, interviewing, following up)?

You will spend most of your time worning to get clients. You will do this networking with existing relationships, establishing yourself as a real eatste expert on social media, talking with anyone who will listen, sponsoring neighborhood and school events, and cold calling. That will never end.

I got my realtor license. Not super hard to get. But it’s costing me money to maintain for the dues and MlS fees are expensive. And it’s so annoying have to show houses. And u have to be on call 24/7. It’s pretty bad. why would anyone want to do it unless u don’t currently have a good job.

Our monthly due was over $100 for the association due and MLS. Then you pay Supra key etc.

I hear it’s a good second career for burnt out housewives

I've heard of many people getting their license to get "insider info" for themselves when buying investment properties. Realtors see market data and homes before they come to market, thus giving them an advantage.

Do you have any thoughts about this or have heard of people doing this as well?

like

I am working on it and have my exam scheduled.

Are you going to do it as a side gig or want to go full time with it? What made you decide to get your license?

Hey friends. My wife and I are looking to start investing in the market outside of our 401ks, hsa etc. We opened a Charles Schwab brokerage account and planning to transfer 2-3k/mo. We’re in our late 20s/early 30 and likely won’t need to touch the money for 10+ years. What should be our investment strategy? How should we allocate to what funds?
