You are gonna be getting up early man you will hate life especially living that far. I did the move from Texas where I had a commute that was 10 minutes to downtown, to driving in Dublin to Sunnyvale epic mistake it like a 2 hour drive in the morning to afternoon. Then when I went to PwC I moved to San Jose best decision I ever made
As somebody who does that drive daily I'm on the road for 3 hours a day. Either go into work really early and leave early and you can shave 1 hr off, or late and leave late. Both kind of suck with a family and children.
Try to live somewhere closer to SF on the BART line if it's accessible by public transportation. Your sanity will thank you.
Me, I can't stand the commute and I wish I could switch.
Have you been to San Jose OP? It is not cool
Brutal. Especially if you do it on the daily.
Only possible if your works is steps away from the Caltrain station.
BART only runs midway down the Peninsula to around the airport. So you would have to take Caltrain, which goes all the way into SF, but not many places.
You can transfer, but that's brutal too. Also, it's probs $20/day r/t.
Advantage: you have the opportunity to spend $1.5 million on a 2 bedroom built in 1955. Not many places can offer you that opportunity down the road!!!
If it’s one of the big 4, you can easily request to work out of the SJ office. We have 3-4 people on my team (SF) who work from SJ office much of the week, only comes to sf office for important meetings etc.
Otherwise, as everyone has mentioned, the commute is terrible but the rent is worse ... if it’s SF job they should be compensating you well enough to get an apartment on peninsula or Oakland ..
Painful, depending on where you live in SJ it is 60-90min to SF.
Don’t try that commute. Caltrain is ok, if you get the bullet train. But they only run during commute hours. Definitely check a Caltrain schedule.
How does 3-4hrs a day in transit between SJ and SF sound? Personally I'd split the difference and live on the peninsula
Unfortunately, it’s an industry job which isn’t as flexible as PA but I’d lose the crazy hours during busy season. But it sounds like it’ll just switch to commuting hours
Driving during traffic time is a minimum of 90 mins. Train is about 1 hr but from train to office can be rough
This sounds terrible
Sounds like rent free isn’t worth the commute. Damnnnnn
Find a cheap apt at east bay commute by bart faster than the one who live in SF...
I switched jobs because of a SF to north SJ commute. It is back breaking and you will waste hours of your day every single day. Don't do it. Find a room in SF or switch offices
Anything positive?
Stay close to Bart, you're looking at 45-50mins
Definitely do not drive. Take Bart or Caltrain and your commute would probably be around an hour each way, depending on which part of the South Bay you’re in.
I’d prob end up near oakridge mall cause of family
Is that still crazy?
