Not sure where you are flying from, but some duty free shops here carry local beer and wine. The LAX Duty Free has a solid selection of California craft beers and wines from Napa/Sonoma.
Maybe other airports have it too.
Flying from JFK, and likely they won't have local beers there.
Wanted to put it in my checked in bag anyways
Yes, do it all the time. Easy to carry in checked bags, but I think I had read about a limit of 2L total allowed alcohol per person (which is just a 6 pack if you’re getting beer)- I’ve taken up to 2.5L with no issues at customs.
Not a fan of re-chilling and consuming warm beer though.
Awesome! Thanks!
Yeah no one cares if you've limited amount of alcohol in your check in. I've not carried beers per se but have carried 2-3 bottles of wine with check in.
I have done this many times. I prefer buying locally because it is surprisingly cheaper than duty free shops. Never had an issue with it.
Yep every time. But never carried beer. Always whiskey bottles
Thanks for your responses everyone.
Got a 6 pack of my favorite local beer. Let's see if it goes through and he gets to enjoy them 😁
Whiskey bottles are stronger, beer bottles are generally more fragile.. make sure they are packed well..
TBH not sure if it’s worth the effort
Edit: was successfullly able to carry 6 pack cans in my checked in bags.
No issues at the airport or customs. They made it safely into his pour glass :)
