Anyone got extra tickets to worlds or is going?
Bain & Company Atlanta people! I’m in the process of applying for MBA programs and wanted to ask what recruiting is like for MBB from Emorys program? Is there a reasonable shot at getting into the Atlanta office from Emory, or are those openings primarily filled by other schools (Duke, UVA, etc.)

If you won’t mind the commute, then it would be great
Yeah, you could always try it and find out!
Lived in ATL my while life and attended a public school in the burbs. I can confirm that those are the best public schools at the moment, but also the commute is going to suck.
John’s Creek and Alpharetta is nice if you like the burbs.
You should also consider City of Decatur if you want to be close to the city with great schools.
Few of my co workers moved out to Johns Creek recently. They also travel, so probably half the time the commute is to the airport, which means using 285/Perimeter rather than the connector (nightmare) traffic. Would you primarily be working local, out of client or Deloitte office? Also, isnt Deloitte’s office I’m Downtown or did it move?
Either way, Alpharetta or Johns Creek would be your best bet for great public schools and most space for your buck. Not sure the exact boundaries, but also look at East Cobb - it’s slightly closer in town than Alpharetta and I think still puts you in the right schools district.
Last rec is for Marietta. I have a few coworkers who live there as well.
Do it!
I’m currently in the process of moving from Chicago to Roswell. I was looking at John’s Creek as well, but when visiting homes I quickly noticed that the commute to the city/airport was brutal.
Yep, I was told that too. JC is out of the picture unfortunately. It looks like a great place to live in but not for commuting downtown or to the airport 😖
If you want to cut down on commute, consider Cobb county- East Cobb, Vinings, Areas near SunTrust Park
To buy
Grew up in johns creek, can confirm had a very robust education. If you’re concerned about the commute (which will always be 1 - 1.5 hours) maybe take a look at sandy springs. It’s closer to midtown and just outside the northern perimeter. Still has good schools and nice burbs
Sandy Spridgian (?) checking in; can’t speak to the schools (no kids), but found a fixer upper here a few years ago that landed me a 25 minute commute to midtown and .85 acres for a little under $500k. Timing was good on selling my in town condo and we’ve been very happy here. Good access to events / places in town via ride share, quiet and far apart from neighboring houses the rest of the time.
Coming from CHI, you can offset some of the house purchase with what you’ll get in selling your winter protective gear; I think we got down to 30 twice this year? ;)
Welcome (prospectively) to Atlanta!
In those terms, I'd say Marietta>East Cobb>Alpharetta. But also keep in mind that it's not a whole lot of a difference.
Just that East Cobb will be closer to The SunTrust Park and Battery. That's where most of the younger crowd will be
Thank you all. I do mind the commute but we also love the idea of having a bit more space to let our baby(s) live and not be stuck in a shoe box. Will need to plan a trip down there once things clear out a bit
I moved down from Boystown last fall (spent 2 years there) and live in Midtown now. Don't have kids but did grow up in the NW suburbs of Atlanta, so can try to give a little more perspective if you'd like.
The idea is becoming more and more concrete, thank you all for your responses!
Another factor influencing our decision, on top of commute time, is how easy it is to integrate with the community. We are thinking that if it is a new young community, it should be easier to integrate than an already established one, where not much movement is happening.
With this in mind, is Alpharetta better than Marietta/East Cobb or are they pretty much the same?
Interesting, I was told exactly the opposite, with Alpharetta being the most open to newcomers and Marietta being more “consolidated” with not too many new families moving there and with an established network/group of friends.
