Thinking of quitting my cushy finance job to do the masters in analytics online degree at Georgia tech. I have 5 years of credit research experience. I feel like the program will give me skills that will help me land a product analyst/product mgmt role, or even make me more competitive for finance/strategy roles at tech companies. Any opinions? I got a couple years of savings so money isn’t an issue and I’m 28 so not married or anything . Just trying to figure out if this is a good idea

What does your research experience entail? If in the academic sense, you're already way overqualified for the stats aspects of product work

Do you actually need it to get a better job?

Then definitely don’t do it. A mentor of mine who’s wildly successful told me not to get another degree unless you need it for your job. The only thing that will happen is you might be able to skip a level or two at lower levels. I quickly rose in my company with just a bachelors and am ahead of people with PhDs. If you need the degree to get the job you want then that’s a different story. It’ll just be counted as an extra year of experience and you’ll have all that debt and miss those years of income.

OMSA is designed to be done while working- or at least many people do so while on the job. no reason to quit just to do this program specifically.

I saw some sales managers discussing hiring strategies, especially for entry level roles (e.g. SDR, BDR).

One strategy that came up was having the applicant do 90 minutes of cold calling into real prospects with the hiring manager coaching.

What do you think of this approach? Would be curious to hear from both hiring manager perspectives and from candidate perspectives.
