I think what AD1 is referring to is all the red tape that often comes with hiring at a larger or even mid-size shop. Imagine how you (the hiring manager) would feel if you verbally green-lit someone after an interview only to be told the next morning that your agency was going into a hiring freeze? Or what if client expectations pivot between your conversation and the expected hiring date, eliminating the role? Things change and it saves everyone a big headache by being respectful and vague until hiring is certain.
Positive thinking manifests positive outcomes! Cliche, I know, but it works for me
You and your coworker sound like real rubes
Yea I’ve never understood all this pretentious shit. I’m super straightforward. You just spoke to me. Do you want me or not? If not say it to my face. If you do, tell me you’ll be sending over an offer soon. If you’ve interviewed other people. Do you want me or them? If you’re still exploring other candidates, tell me. Don’t waste my fucking time. It’s so simple
Copywriter 1, have you ever done any hiring?? It's not a one man show and certainly not something you just tell a candidate without taking time to think and discuss with rest of team and HR... We'll be in touch, is a perfectly professional response and it doesn't automatically mean No at all. I don't know about straightforward but you sound like a petulant child with that comment.
@OP Account Dir 1 is right. Often I make the decision to hire on the spot but have wait for finance for weeks. Sometimes jobs are closed if we lose something after the interview. It’s all done to protect the people already on my team from layoffs down the line if we aren’t careful about finances. I never want to give any candidate false hope, so I say “let’s stay in touch.” Other times I’m waiting on my first choice and buying time. Hard to know for sure, but typically I don’t say “stay in touch” to those who I don’t think is right. But I try to be direct cause I know how frustrating it is to be led on. @CW1 You sound like a lovely person I would never want to hire.
Don't worry. If an interview went bad I would never touch the persons hand.
^ Absolutely, not to mention the people who interview candidates have to debrief internally and often you're not even authorized to single handedly decide on a hire right then and there. It's completely immature to not understand that. This is not a mom and pop operation. There is a process.
AD 1 - so that debrief takes 4 weeks? No it takes minutes per person. “Hey I just spoke to them. They were really fun/cool/wtv and we liked their work. Can we make an offer by the end of tomorrow? Yes? No?) repeat that 8 times if you need to run it by 8 people. It still takes at most an hour. If it didn’t work out. Then send me a message and say sorry, we decided to explore other candidates. Easy. omg so many barriers. So difficult. So tough. As a co worker once told me “idgaf how you get it done. It’s the one thing you’re paid to do. Now deliver or I’ll get someone else to do it”
AD 1 - nah if you want me to take my time and come see you. You better have done your homework and be ready to make a decision. It's literally what you are paid to do. It’s not that difficult. We saw his/her work and we like or don’t like it. If we do, let’s see if his/her personality fits with us and speak to him/her. If you liked what I brought when we meet then what more do you need? If I reached out to you for a position it’s a different story and I agree with you.
LOL
Hahaha so this thread really got off topic. CW sorry you feel no one is on your team. AD1 I think people just want the process to be transparent. I.e. “I have to talk to 3 other people, but you have my vote. Hopefully we can bring you back in.” That honesty goes a long way. It sucks leaving an interview I prepared for and feeling like I don’t know what’s happening.Only time will tell.
OP, you do know what's happening unless you're a total rookie. I just told you how it goes. Also, you absolutely should be asking for that info from your HR contact who coordinates and facilitates the hiring process. I do and I often receive the transparency you describe. Ask what you can expect next, etc. I can't control that for you and neither can the individual interviewers. And don't get me started on how long finance approvals and chasing down signatures takes. Even if I'm pushing for it, I'm still swamped with a thousand other meetings all day and client travel. HR is who you should be sending your inquiries to.
Hahaha AD1 breath in-breath out. No one is attacking you here. I’ve asked the HR contact with no reply yet. We’ll see what happens. Didn’t mean to get you in a tizzy. Thank you for your thoughts.
OP, this is just how interviewing goes. It’s not a surprise to not know what’s happening
Not sure why you're under the impression I'm in a tizzy. I'm super chill, just unclear what's so confusing to you. I thought Copywriter was in a tizzy. Good luck with the job!!
