I’m 25 & looove finances. I have a little over $200k in assets so cash & stocks + Roth IRA. I started 5 years ago with -26k (student loans). If you’re serious about changes in your financial situation I suggest joining the FinancialGym! I just joined last month but I’ve learned things and think they’re great. They can teach you more about saving than I could try to explain over a comment on FB
@mccann - saving 20% of paychecks to where?
At 25, nothing I’m sure. I had a Roth IRA at the time that I should have put money into but didn’t. One of my biggest regrets is not socking away more money. I turned out to be the breadwinner in my family (something my 25 yo self would have never imagined would happen to me) and it’s been very very hard. Now at 42 with a house and a kid and a hubs in school (and not working) having started earlier would have given me waaaaaay more security, and the ability to actually have done more travel, trips etc these past years instead of put as much into savings (short and long term and 529) as I can
190k because I worked in finance for two years and saved so I could fleeeeeeeeeee
At 25, 30k. At 35, 30k in a Roth IRA, 50k in savings. Reeeeeeally wish I’d put more in my Roth IRA when I could have, looking into ETFs now with Vanguard.
$60k, bought a condo at 26
I was in grad school and had literally nothing saved. Wasn't able to actually start saving until I was about 31. Saved up about $600k (not counting home equity) in the ten years since. You can make up for it if you haven't saved much, just don't get in bad spending habits.
I’m not 25 yet .. getting married .. it’s gonna eat up most of my savings D:
At 25, I was living paycheck to paycheck.
Negative $162.68
9k in cash and 12k in Roth IRA
$0
25K
$15k. And after 7 years living in NYC I’m now 32 and it’s all gone.
70k. But half of it was because of parents (moved countries at the age of 18, so i had to be parensponsor for some time).
25 now. Like.... 8k that I inherited when my uncle died. If not for that, I probably would have next to nothing.
Making good money. Just shit at saving it.
I’m 23 ... soon to be 24 .. mixed feelings now about myself lol ... I have 24K student loan (attacking it aggressively after my wedding in August) 10K in bank and 6 in 401k .. I guess I’m ok ..
Nada. In fact, I was up to my eyeballs in credit card debt, had recently lost my job and was getting evicted from my adorable but very expensive apartment off Melrose. (I was a bit of a party girl back then. ) 🥴 By 27, I had buckled down hard, was super focused, and was just starting to put together a book of spec work. Nobody went to ad schools back then. By 28, I got my first job as a Copywriter. I figured I ‘had time’ to save money but that’s not true. Time goes by SO FAST. I wish I’d started saving at 25. If you can, stash away 10% pre-tax every pay period and contribute the max to your 401(k). You’ll be light years ahead.
