I'd do MBA before a finance major. If you are dead set on finance, consider the CFA.
I agree - CFA is what you want to pursue if you are interested in finance. Graduating from a prestigious MBA program is definitely also something to consider.
Accounting yes. Finance no
To give more clarity on my answer OP. You learn most of the things that you need from finance in 1 or 2 undergrad courses. Accounting is a lot more complicated.
For instance, I work at a subscription based company. We are thinking about buying an insurance company. If we do that, we will have to change how our revenue is recognized. We can’t book revenue on our actuarial predicted data, instead we have to use hard cash. A finance degree won’t teach you that, but an accounting degree will.

Finance Analyst 1 that maybe true that accounting is more complicated than finance; however, when it comes to salary finance earns more than accounting especially when it comes to upper management positions. I would know I am a ivy-league educated Managing Director of Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs in San Francisco, California. I have a AB in Economics with Summa Cum Laude Honors, MBA with Summa Cum Laude Honors, and JD with Summa Cum Laude Honors from Harvard University. I received all my degrees at 24 years old because I graduated high school at 16 years old. I am a minority (African-American and Moroccan Male) and look more Moroccan. I have been MD for three years now and was promoted to MD at 26 years old. I just turned 30 years old. I am a revenue-producing individual and have the ability to create complex strategies for deals so that is why i made MD at 26 and will be promoted to partner when they make the announcement of the next partners at Goldman Sachs. My currently compensation as a MD is in the lower millions like 5 to 7 million/year with bonuses. It would be higher but the pandemic had some kind of effect on certain lucrative business deals. The partner status at Goldman Sachs comes with a 950k salary, access to private investment opportunities, and a cut of profits from Goldman's investment funds so my total compensation can be outstandingly large like 50 to 100 million or more depending on yearly performance. Upper management professionals in accounting do not make that much not even partners at the big 4.

Everyone you have to remember that the CFA is not promised. It has three very challenging levels. It is one of the hardest exams in the world. I am a CFA and FRM and a ivy-league educated Managing Director of Investment Banking at Goldman Sachs in San Francisco, California. It took me one attempt to pass each level because I am gifted when it comes to hard exams. Also if you want to be competitive in the finance industry you need to get an MBA from an ivy-league university so you do not have to worry about an MS in Finance.
I also from a very wealthy family in Northern California and they live in the richest city in the United States. Which is why I have a success story of the individuals you heard of. I do plan on starting multiple technology and finance empires one day.
How long ago did you graduate from college? If <2 years, you’re good. Go for it, it actually may open opportunities in finance (assuming you’re also networking ahead of starting)
What school?
I have one , based in Dublin, fantastic degree, did it in NCI, masters in dublin cost about 25k but you would make it back (in terms of increased salary) in one year, maximum 2.
