Thoughts on holidays…

At Accenture US we now have 2 “culture days” which can be used like PTO. We get off Christmas, thanksgiving, etc. as normal holidays.

Why couldn’t companies issue all holidays as “culture days” and allow employees to choose which days to use them on?

Example: if their are 9 holidays (thanksgiving, x-mas, New Years, etc.) why not just make them “culture days” and allow people to choose when they use them?

I recently accepted a position with a new org. One of the benefits I asked about with offer was the parental leave policy and was told (in writing by HR) 16 weeks paid after 1 year, which is as good as you can hope for in US. Now I’ve been sent the employee handbook to review/sign and it says only 12 weeks, which is less than the org I’m leaving. What might my recourses be to negotiate 16 weeks when the time comes? Also, should I be viewing this is a red flag?

I don't follow pop. culture anymore, no longer actively follow team sports (but sporty myself) as I consider it bread and circus for the masses and don't rly enjoy work drinks... Am I doomed? Personally I am happy and love the work but fear for my career progression.

So I had 3 deals scheduled to either close end of May or mid June which were all pushed to end of June/beginning of July. Which is when I have my first vacation planned for over a year (I take 0 time off). My whole family is flying up and we’re renting a cabin near me. What do I do? I’m running one of the deals, semi running the other one and not doing much leading on the other one. Note: I was supposed to not be running any of these. Do I find a back up first or tell the partners first?

Tax question: I had a traditional ira which I moved to my employer 401k recently. I’m planning to do an after tax 401k to ira conversion. Would prorata rule apply since I had a traditional ira balance earlier this calendar year?
