That’s because it’s so hard to collect a judgment from the FRE.

Complex litigation make sure you have a great deal of time on your hands, a lot of patience, a decent amount of money to spare and a small group of secretary(s), and paralegal(s) and lawyer(s) extra. If you lose be prepared to withstand the windblown. You have to have a copy of a blacks law six abridged dictionary, your State court rules, your federal rules of civil proc., fed. rules of evidence, local court rules of the court, the courts internal operating procedures, the copy of the states constitutions your in and rehearsal of state statutes and knowledge of how to pull federal statutes for state court and pull state statutes for federal court. There's ordinances, treaties, compacts, human rights treaties, case law, constitutions and some more other things attorneys can think of less obvious and obsequious that can be thought of. There's lots of time needing to be spent and practiced on complaint drafting, motion preparation and if you lose and you are low on funds you have to know how to hold your own on appeal and remember 99.9% of every writing is like an essay. With sexual harassment it's not somewhat like any harassment case, there's standards, laws, guidelines and exceptions that I am not privy to. I'm not versed in sexual harassment but I know you have to know what you're talking about and people can lie and people really suffer a prolonged damage and can be discounted. With that being said good luck and God bless.

I feel left out in my firm. How do I make 'friends' with my colleagues? I've been here for a year. I am naturally not a very out going person, was never 'cool' and I struggle to speak in group situations / make engaging conversation with higher ups. It is an important trait to have in this job and I just don't know how to do this. It makes me very upset - I even sought therapy but wasn't useful. I can't spend 14 hours each day feeling like this:(

I made a mistake. I talked with the ex this morning. He said he misses me. And that while he walk talking to the other woman, he wished he was talking to me instead. And when he saw that I didn’t respond to his texts, he drank a shit ton. And then called this morning.

He’s not willing to commit to the other women because he’s not over me.

I need to block him.

FL peoples: I signed a lease for a new place to start May 1 as my current landlord sold the unit I'm in. Turns out, the buyer wants to keep renting the unit and asked if I want to stay. Of course I want to stay. My new lease hasn't started so I'm pretty sure I can easily back out. For the new lease, I'm still pending full approval from a condo association as I have to do an in person interview. I have paid first months rent in advance. Is there anyway to get that money back?

I work in a firm that is known for litigation defense. I’ve been developing my own plaintiffs practice as well. I am able to pay the bills with my hourly defense work, which gives me time to focus on a handful of high value PI case a year on contingency. I was recently negotiating a case and was told part of the reason the claims rep/OC was jerking me around was because they didn’t see me as a plaintiffs attorney. Is there any way to change this perception or does it just come over time?

Trying to get ahead of my caseload feels like trying to climb a hill made of loosely-packed pebbles. No matter how much I scrabble, I’m sliding closer and closer to the bottom.

How do you get caught up (or even ahead) when you’re always behind? Assume that all things that can be offloaded have been offloaded. I cannot take one more all nighter trying to get a motion drafted two days before the deadline because I couldn’t get to it earlier.

Currently at a super conservative defense firm. I do really well but keep getting the criticism that I tend to just do things on my own initiative. I’m just predisposed to being decisive and rather autonomous. Besides being a solo atty, where would this skillset be better suited? Plaintiffs work?

Curious what a big law lateral (4th year) signing bonus may be? If I get an offer, this will be my first big law job, so I have nothing to compare it to.

I’ve been working at a rather prestigious midsized firm in a big city for almost a year and a half now. I have been having a lot of trouble picking up work from senior partners. We are required to bill at least 150 hours per month to meet our requirement. My months are typically only 110-130 hours. It seems like the senior partners already have their “go to” associate for things. Does anyone have any suggestions on how i can increase my workload? I reach out for work pretty much weekly.
